Bogey, Thanks for that, it is interesting to see the sensibilities being reviewed over the ending.

I liked most of the film, though I do think the Dukas has been ruined forever for me.

Damn but that Ravel sonata is a fine piece!

Now playing CD2 from this set of 8.  CD2 includes the last of the six Brandenburg Concertos and Concerto for Flute, Violin, Harpsichord, Stings and Basso Continuo plus the first two of the Orchestral Suites ...

Stuart - Musica Antiqua Köln is one of my favorite groups (even saw them 'live' in Milan @ La Scala back in 1996!) - I've been trying to search for this 'box set' just to see 'what' is contained - any hints or directions 'where' to look?  Thanks - Dave

Dave,  You must have seen the response from our ever resourceful George.  It was a no-brainer for me to leap for the set since the only Bach CD I had by Musica Antiqua Köln was Art of Fugue.  I ended up ordering it from Amazon UK since I could not find this set on Amazon US.  The price was good.  It came to $48 with shipping.

This is the one orchestrated by Stokowski and was used in Disney's Fantasia.

George & Stuart - thanks for your prompt responses!   :D

I just took a look at the tract listings on those 8 CDs - now I already own all of the works (some in triplicate) on these recordings, but Reinhard Goebel and his group are just excellent, so will add to my wish list (yes, I could not find the set on Amazon USA, either) - but for those just getting into Papa Bach, this would be a great 'starter' box!  :)

Or like me, who has rediscovered Musica Antiqua Köln.  I first came across the ensemble in the old LP days and somehow concluded that I did not like the tempo or sound or some combination of both that I have not bought any CD's by the group until early this year when I picked up the Art of Fugue.

I noticed that some of those DG Collector's Editions have come down in price of late. (Mozart/Anda, Bach/Gardiner, Mendelssohn/Abbado, Haydn/Pinnock, and some time ago, the Bach/Walcha (stereo))

Volume 2 of the violin and harpsichord sonatas. James Ehnes' violin playing is simply heavenly. He combines suavity and purity of tone with long-lined phrasing allied to rythmic alacrity. Beauséjpour's harpsichord playing is suitably sonorous and beautifully supports Ehnes' lead.

Oh, gosh; I think Lis sent me that one, Mike, meaning to send me the Shostakovich Seventh.  I've got it somewhere, but haven't listened to it yet.

Thanks for the description!  Just added the two volumes to my wish-list André.  They seem to come in a two disc set at this point:

This should give Dave an incentive to buy.  Amazon US did not have this even as of yesterday - I swear.  But there could be a problem with my search.  I paid Amazon UK $48 for the set, including airmail from the UK.  I bought my Karajan Symphony Edition from Amazon UK at a great price.  The price for the set remains very high at Amazon US.
