Many reminders of BWV 540 (F Major Toccata), but Krebs (pupil of JSB) certainly was a gifted man himself!

No doubt, but the many JS Bach reminders are in a way unrelieving and only make me want to listen to the master himself.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

It is a very beautiful set, with superb sound and plenty to talk about.
After a LOT of recent Mahler listening (including Bertini) I decided that Inbals's 80's recordings are my flavour of the month instead.  Inbal brings something like a narrative feel to the Symphonies (which he plays expansively) - there is always a sense that a story is being told, and Inbal keeps us hanging on to hear it.  I listened to them last week for the first time in many years, and was fair taken by them!  However, I am not listening to them now.

What a conductor!  How he takes posession of the music with a firm artistic grasp!

Cool. :)

As long as when I ask for your opinion of a recording, you don't ask me to pick heads or tails. ;D

Yes, Barenboim shines in the short romantic works, like the Mendelsohhn songs without words on DG, for example.

His conducting in the Beethoven symphonies (available cheap from MDT) is something to behold. Great sound and performance.

This must be an excellent recording with Kempff in the prime of his life ...

Do you deduce that conclusion ("prime of his life") from the picture on the cover?

In part, but the recording was probably made in the 50's or even earlier.

Fabulous.  But I didn't know Andy Sipowicz was in Beaux Arts Trio.  Must get it.
