My impression so far - fascinating music, well-performed and recorded.

I didn't even know I owned this as it came in the big Chandos Milestones box set I got early last year. Really beautiful music.

This is really an outstanding set from the Nash Ensemble. I'm going to be listening to Ravel's Piano Trio, which is such a masterpiece, then I'm going to revisit the Debussy works on these discs most notably the Sontas.

Listening to Chamber Symphony right now and what a fun work! Up next is Grand Pianola Music.

Bach.
BACH.
I stand up for Bach.

Hans Abrahamsen: Schnee (2006) - It's on YouTube here--the entire piece--apparently the recording by Ensemble Recherche.

Bella Hristova isn't that attractive. She looks like a man. Sorry dude, I had to say it. :D But I know, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I've always fancied Sarah Chang myself:

I've gotten her autograph and got to talk to her in person for a few seconds. She seems really cool, and just as cute in real life.  :)

Bach, JS - Organ Works w/ Ton Koopman; 16 CD box for $12 on Amazon (priced has already gone up!) - now I'm not much of an 'organ guy' (did have some sweetbreads the other night on a weekend get-away -  ;) ;D) - I just hope this is a well respected collection, don't plan to add multiple other sets in this genre - enjoying the first disc so far -  :)

Didn't get a chance to listen to this earlier, but I am now:

Simply outstanding. This is really one of the best operas of the 20th Century and Rattle's conducting does the work full justice.

Dave,  You should enjoy the set as Koopman is an outstanding organist.  I have 10 sets of Bach Complete Organ Works but have no intention of boosting that collection anytime soon ...

Thanks, Stuart - your support is appreciated; also, Jens gave this set a 'high five' - I own SO MUCH of Papa Bach but in the non-organ works, so thought that I needed at least one complete set of his compositions in this genre - believe that this will satisfy - Dave  :D

I have some 30 versions of the Brandenburg Concertos but they belong in a different subgenre as Bach Organ Works IMO ...

Beethoven
Piano Trios 1 & 5 "Ghost"
Chung Trio
EMI

Prokofiev - Lieutenant Kije
Kodaly - Hary Janos
Dan Iordachescu, baritone (in Prokofiev)
Philharmonia Orchestra/Erich Leinsdorf
Seraphim LP

I was listening to the Beethoven while I was reading, and a funny thing happened. I noticed the strange harmonies underpinning the melody in the famous slow movement of the "Ghost" trio. I had not heard these before. It sounded almost c20th. & I got the LP for $1 & gave it a first listen. I have always liked Leinsdorf's interpretations. It was interesting to hear the baritone in two of the songs in the Prokofiev (I hadn't heard this version before & I think it must be pretty rare)...

Totally amazing recording. One of my favorite recording of these works.

Daverz

Unfortunately, I find this recording boomy and annoying.  Maybe it's the music.  Or maybe Reference Recording's Chadwick CD is more listenable.

I have never heard Chadwick Daverz, but I see he has a Tam O'Shanter in his works...must look it up.

I think a lot of it is the music itself. Chadwick wasn't a particularly inspired composer. He didn't really compose anything noteworthy.
