Sibelius Kullervo performed by Colin Davis/LSO (Live). It's the first time I heard this work, and it was very interesting indeed. I look forward to compare it to Vanska where I suppose to find more nordic chill.

Don

Goldberg Variations from:

Walter Riemer (fortepiano - NF Audio)
Jill Crossland (piano - Apex)
Ottavio Dantone (harpsichord - Decca)
David Propper (piano - Skarbo)
Ramin Bahrami (piano-Decca)
Simone Dinnerstein (piano - Telarc)

Each has much to offer.  Riemer's seems to be the first recording of the Goldbergs on fortepiano, and it's a gem.  He does a great job in conveying the dancing elements.  Crossland is far from predicatable and likes to mix up legato and staccato phrasing; on the negative side, her right hand sometimes is rather weak, and she tends to be a "note-blaster".  Dantone is wonderful.  Propper has the best sonics of this group and he uses it well in conveying detail among the voices.  Bahrami is the virtuoso of the group and is "off to the races" whenever possible.  Dinnerstein is his opposite - slow and dream-like.

Good choice, I yet have to begin listening properly to this set.
But me sampling a few items, became very happy just by that alone. :)

Fantastic stuff. Another GMG recommendation that I was glad to investigate.

Ernest Chausson.

Piano Quartet opus 30 in A major.

Apart from this being wonderful music, the performance is excellent too. Always had a weakness for Chausson, again these works strike me as magnificent. The recording is first rate too.
