Splendid, D Minor:D

Tis indeed, Karl.  Talk about an underperformed masterpiece!

As a followup, I'm listening to Prokofiev, Symphony no. 4 (Kuchar).

Mark

Kodaly's two String Quartets.

Bogey

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Good morning, Bogey. I'm listening to Riccardo Muti/Philadelphia Orchestra doing LvB 9th.

karlhenning

Hindemith, Kammermusik No. 2 for piano & 12 instruments, Opus 36 No. 1
Konzertmusik for piano, 10 brass instruments & 2 harps, Opus 49
Siegfried Mauser, pf
Frankfurt Radio Orchestra
Werner Andreas Albert

Hector

Gergiev with his 'new' orchestra was at the Proms last night.

All Russian programme (no!) starting with Romeo and Juliet. Loved her, hated him.

I gave up after that. I wasn't in the mood for Prokofiev.

But today, something I haven't played for a few months (because it was Gergiev on the radio in Tchaik's 4th and I wasn't in the mood for that either), Suppe's Requiem from Portugal, recorded live by those nice people at Virgin, under Michel Corboz.

I am never less than enthralled by this masterpiece written by the one Croatian composer of any note and, also, composer of the inimitable 'Dichter und Bauer' overture, among other gems!

Kullervo

Haydn 97 (Jochum, London PO)

Good morning :)

The third movement, Sehr ruhig. Variationen, is some of my favorite Hindemith of all time!  :)

Do Naxos ever get it wrong when recording Poulenc?

Looks like Kubelik is standing in the middle of the day.  Same with me - it's only 2 :15 PM.
