::) I'm back! And own up! Who said they hadn't noticed I'd gone?!  ;D Had time off work and was away from home with hardly any access to classical music!  :'( But I'm about to make up for lost listening time. My pc is down to less than 1GB free space! So I'm having a huge listening/burning session. I'm starting with some good old Furtwängler. His rendition of Bruckner's 9th which will be followed by David Lively, Czecho-Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra and Alfred Walter's recording of Wilhelm's Piano Concerto. Not sure if I have the right cover for the Bruckner. I'd investigate if I could remember where I got it from...

Suzuki for sheer beauty and refinement, Koopman for the rougher edges. No Gardner needed, imho.
Shall sample Koopman then.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Villa-Lobos

Bachianas brasileiras № 4, for orchestra (1930-1941)

(This one apparently mostly 'assembled' from piano pieces he had already written; only the Prelude was composed anew for this 'incarnation'.)

Bachianas brasileiras № 5, for soprano & eight cellos (1938-1945)
Barbara Hendricks, soprano

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Enrique Bátiz

karlhenning

Villa-Lobos
Bachianas brasileiras № 6, for flute & bassoon (1938)
Lisa Hansen, fl
Susan Bell, bn

Who thinks Kancheli a second rate composer, should listen to this, I can't stop doing just that.

Next in the repeat mode, this excellent specimen of wonderful music.

Currently, one of my favorite piano CDs.

I like this music!

The recording I posted above? Good stuff, says me.

Now this. I don't listen to classical guitar much, so it's nice to own the ultimate guitar album.

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

More of:

Zimmermann: Die Soldaten (Kontarsky/Staatstheater Stuttgart) - Trying to immerse myself as much as possible in the score.  And even though it's a twelve-tone composition, he manages to work in some jazz and other elements, along with a huge amount of percussion.  The vocal parts must be incredibly difficult to learn.

I'm listening to excerpts from these two recently acquired sets. To my ears, Gielen is more successful in the early symphonies.
Moving to my new apartment on Saturday, there's not much time for critical or chore-free listening at the moment. Almost all my CDs are in boxes. I see myself packing well into the night...
