I guess my doctrinal sensibilities aren't very historically informed... :D

I just write that sort of things when I am trying to seem serious.  :D

Now, for instance, the Puritan HIPster on me is taking a rest and I'm listening to La Fida Ninfa by Spinosi and his band.

I have been comparing 19 different recordings by pianists who have recorded all 4 of the Chopin Ballades.

I wrote a post in the Chopin thread that can provide more info for those who are interested.

Now playing CD2 from this twofer.  CD1 was excellent, even for someone who until a few months ago did not like chamber music ...

I am still hooked on this.
The interpretations are brilliant, and subtly different to what I've heard before...more later...

Well, have been away from listening for a few days - a couple of re-tries below - the Myslivecek is a certain keeper; the Krommer performance w/ the Authentic Quartet warrants another listen -  :D

I wonder if the composer William Wordsworth ever met the composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.  ;)

I don't have this particular disc from the Authentic Quartet, but I do own a couple of others.  Overall, I find this group's approach rather clinical and cool; a little warmth/affection would be favorable.

Don - I agree about the Authentic Quartet - my second listen and have 2 discs by them; in this performance the playing is rather 'too polite and subdued' - wish that someone had lit matches under their seats!  :D

The group has excellent credentials, 'authentic' playing (hence the reason for their name according to the notes), and quite good recorded sound - just not exciting listening, and don't feel that it's Krommer's music - unfortunately don't believe that there are any others to compare?

OTOH - the Myslivecek disc is a knockout performance - have no hesitation in a recommendation if one wants to hear the Divine Bohemian in some good classical chamber quintets!  Dave  :D
