I have the Järvi cycle too but haven't played it in years. Time to dust it off and have another listen. But first, some happy music after the dark Fourth  :)

Meanwhile I am dubbing about Askenazy's take on Sibelius, the Decca recordings I mean. What are your votes about that one?

Fat, romantic Sibelius...I like it.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Now playing CD1 from this set for a first listen.  This set has become almost impossible to find stateside but I picked it up at Presto at a great price ...

good afternoon all  :)

First listen through :

I only had the Karajan twofer before this, which bored me to death. I got this as an alternative to find out if this was just due to the works or Karajan's version. Bless that Mravinsky guy.... ;D

Now playing CD8 - more works by Schubert from this set for a first listen ...

Drasko

I was supposed to be on my way to cinema to see triple bill of Mayakovsky's The Young Lady and the Hooligan, Pudovkin's Chess Fever and Dovzhenko's debut Love's Berries (which I've haven't had the chance to see ever before), but the weather is so miserable that I've decided to stay in and listen to Brahms.

George,    I think someone on the SH forum has this twofer released by Esoteric, which did some super-duper remastering on these DG recordings ...

Excellent harpsichord works composed by Johan Helmich Roman, aka the Swedish Handel.  The performance by Joseph Payne was outstanding as well ...
