Job is by far the best discovery of this set for me. Stunning work.

Yes, Job is an incredible work. One of my favorites from RVW. The best performance of Job I've heard is Hickox/Bournemouth Symphony on EMI. I own about six or seven different performances of this work.

My dear fellow GMG ers, please consider this CD too. Its a budget release from Brilliant, and it contains absolutely smashing music from a composer that died young, but you can hear what a great promise he was, and what wonderful things would have come from his hands had he lived longer. The brevity of his life was a major disaster for Portugal and at large for the rest of us classical music lovers.
Joao de Freitas Branco observed on the 40th anniversary of Fragoso's death, " Antonio Fragosa's place was left vacant, none of the Portuguese composers of our time have brought us a message comparable to that which have been his". I consider this very true. The Chamber music on this disc is of a stunning quality, and will not fail to move you. It is performed well, and also is well recorded. Recommended to all of you.

For some persons second opinions seems like a wise course.   ;D

Fine performances in good sound!
And more or less the only game in town if you want some of these works.

What I consider also a very worthwhile release from 2011, must be the Harpsichord concertos by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. They get a superb treatment by Harmonices Mundi, led by Claudio Astronio who also plays on the Harpsichord, in quit a fabulous way. The performance has the stamp of authenticity, and it is well recorded too!

I'm getting a little obsessed with this piece...  :o

Ignore the people complaining about the sound quality, it's fine for a 50s recording.
My favourite words in classical: "Molto vivace"

Yes, I'm shallow.

Psst, what did you think of the Prokofiev Seventh in the Järvi box? Personally, it is not my preference, but . . . .

It went onto my second listen playlist. Not sure about it yet, has promise. It normally takes me three or four listens to get into a symphony anyway.
