I have to admit that reading the nickname "Papa" for Joseph Haydn always makes me smile. ;D

Go, Ilaria, go! : )

:D

I've always been rather fond of Haydn, he was the very first composer I started listening, along with Mozart and Johann Strauss.

I may be a cliche: a forgotten en underrated composer of significant quality. Yet it's all true in the case of Manuel Orlandi Blasco de Nebra, who died young but is right next to Soler as musical heir of Domenico Scarlatti.

But it's as misleading -- and perhaps more so -- than most of those reductive nicknames.
I've come to quite hate it, even though I understand it's meant kindly... and that it does evoke a sort of comfy, charming atmosphere.

Haydn non Papa, is the word!

Thread duty:

L.v. Bach
WTC, Book II
Zhu Xiao-Mei
Mirare

Ahhhhhh. Yes. That's the ticket. (Among many other tickets I also love, of course. But Zhu Xiao-Mei is special.

A great performance! Although I believe Martinon has an extra dose of power and beauty.

Just landed, a first listen for some of these early numbered symphonies. And the really good news is that the cover art is not nearly as neon-blue as this image makes it seem.  :)
