Debussy, Faure, & Ravel - String Quartets w/ Quatuor Ebene; all 3 on one disc w/ 80+ minutes of music; superb playing and engineering w/ a very 'up front' sound stage (which I like) - 2009 Gramophone Award Winner - Best Chamber Recording and Record of the Year.  A dozen 5* reviews on Amazon, including one by our own Jens HERE; also a short but superb review from AllMusic - so, if you're looking for all of these French SQs on one disc in an award winning recent recording by a young French string group, then this one should greatly please! :)

What a pleasant and diverting music this is. With such a excellent performances and recording one lacks nothing. A very well produced disc!
I have listened to this disc now about 6 times, so it will be the last time before it ends in my collection. I for me can safely recommend this, others I urge to listen to some samples. The fine sounding Pianoforte is a copy of Walter, made by Paul MacNulty (Devisov), and the Baroque Violin is made by Pierre Jacquier in 1996. A perfect harmony.

CPE Bach
Sonatas for Violin & Piano.

Amandine Beyer, violin.
Edna Stern, Piano.

Recorded in 2005.

I share your admiration, Harry:) One of the best CPE I've encountered so far.

So recommendation is hereby wholeheartedly seconded. 8)

Finished a little while ago:

Was happy to have the time to listen to the whole opera. (with a little break half way through...)
Absolutely amazing music, so many thrilling and beautiful moments! I am happy to report that I am also getting on very well with the performance, so I think it was the right choice to go for the Karajan, so thank you to all who suggested that particular choice!

Very excited to continue! I'll probably listen to Das Rheingold again tommorow before moving onto Die Walkure. Looking forward to it! :D

That's music for my ears, so happy you liked the first opera of the Ring, Daniel!

Wolfgang Fortner (1907-1987)
Intermezzi from the opera 'Bluthochzeit'
Berlin Radio Symphony, Fortner conducting

Atonal but highly melodic - reminiscent of Berg.  Brilliantly orchestrated, too!

Yes, it makes me want to find more recordings of Fortner's work - there's not a lot out there.

Coincidentally, I also have a Bach cantata up now:

Cantata 'Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele', BWV 180
Masaaki Suzuki; Bach Collegium Japan

At the moment, the tenor aria 'Ermuntre dich, dein Heiland klopft'.  Outstanding!  I love what I've heard of Suzuki's cycle so far - I definitely prefer it to Harnoncourt/Leonhardt.  Gardiner, Leusink, and Koopman are still in my backlog, so this could get interesting!
So much great music, so little time...
