Such incredibl lyrical, romantic, uplifting piece. Just love it! :) A piece that appears to bring me much luck too! :)

Good night everyone! :)

Inconsequential, but the Variations might be an entertaining way to start a young new listener painlessly.

Oh my, check out this toe-tapping joy of music. Hilary Hahn's next collaborative journey alongside German (prepared)-pianist Hauschka.
And a nifty little stop-animation video to go along with it.

I hope this is not just the result of being in a good mood or something, but I'm liking what I hear tonight
Bruckner: Symphony 1--Karajan/BPO
Bruckner: Symphony 5--Karajan/BPO
Tchaikovsky: Symphony 6--Bernstein/NYPO (DG)
and now back to Anton:
Bruckner: Symphony 3--Karajan/BPO

If that looks like a box set of Bruckner, it is.  I've begun listening to the Karajan/Bruckner BPO set, and as I hoped,  Der Meister's style works most excellently with Bruckner.  This is the first time I've listened to B1 and actually liked it;  and while I've heard performances I like of 3 and 5, there's nothing so far to complain about in either of these performances.

And I actually liked the Tchaikovsky, too, even though this is the performance (the one with the really stretched out final movement) that most people find too eccentric.  I thought it worked fine.

The main motivation for my getting the following set was the Karajan Complete Bruckner Symphonies box had gotten too pricey ...

I surely am glad I only paid a little over $50 for this set.  I ordered the set from Amazon UK ...

No, it was I said that;  nor did I say that you said it.  In Košler's recording there, its three parts together run nearly three quarters of an hour, all told.  How long is the longest of the symphonies?

My apologies, Karl. Let's see, Roussel's 2nd is the longest symphony he wrote clocking in at 38-40 minutes. Evocations, by Roussel standards, is quite long, but it's really something else. If you like Roussel, then you'll dig this work. 8)

I wouldn't consider the Bruckner box terribly expensive--$25 on Amazon MP including s/h, for a 9 CD set.  I see Amazon itself  has gone up about five dollars on its own price since I ordered it; at that time they were just under $25.

Although $50 for the box you have is a pretty good deal, so you need not cry.  I think I already have the Beethoven and Brahms recordings in your box (depending on which Beethoven cycle they used--I have the one from the 60s), and from what I hear of his Mozart and Haydn recordings, I probably wouldn't like them (by which I mean, people whose tastes in those two composers are about like mine, don't seem to care for the Karajan recordings).  So the box is probably not for me.

I went back and put in images in my post, btw, for everyone elses ease of reference.

We are not talking about the same Karajan Bruckner set.  You are referring to a more recently remastered set ...

I've never heard this music before, but from the evidence here, Geoffrey Burleson is awkwardly clunking his way through it loudly and proudly. A pity, because a lot of it sounds like it would be really good in more sensitive hands. Op 52/2 is probably gorgeous.

Then which one are you talking about? Is it a different set of performance, or simply a different mastering of the performances I have?
