Starting the day with music from Spain, dating from the transition from Renaissance to Baroque.

[asin]B000BO0Q0E[/asin]

Based at the Philip II's court in Madrid, Matteo Romero was born in Liège (then part of the Spanish territories in the Southern Netherlands - presentday Belgium) as Mathieu Rosmarin and belongs to the fifth and last generation of the Franco-Flemish School (incl. Lassus, de Rore, Vaet, de Weert). What I hear is basically Italian style from the dawn of Baroque, mixed in with influence from the tradition of the Northern Netherlands, topped with a Spanish flavour - for example the typical conservative use of Gregorian style interludes.

Summer has finally arrived here, BTW. :)

Lots of affirmations on the qualities of this set. And yes, even considering I already had Mortensen, getting this was definitely worth it. In terms of vividness, sheer freshness and expressive articulation this trumps Mortensen's much more sober, Calvinistic approach. Simone Stella plays an extremely pretty and intimate sounding copy after Johannes Ruckers.

Don't you love the new generation of Italian harpsichordists? :) Like these recordings Simone Stella also did for OnClassical, a download-only company, Händel's 1st book of suites. Dear Brilliant, could we please have that too?! :) (Although they already have Borgstede)

Brilliant already released another disc from the OnClassical catalogue: a disc with harpsichord music by Dutch-Flemish composer Pieter Bustijn:

Now, I think that will be next on the list. 8)

Hmmmm, I missed the one by Bustijn, will put that on my list too.  I am happy that you agree about Buxtehude.

Another fine acquisition I made some months ago, must be this wonderful collection of Organ music, played by the master of all. Disc IV is filled with all my favourite composers in this genre. Played on fine organs and well recorded.

Kerll, Froberger, Fischer, Speth, Pachelbel, Muffat, Hassler, Erbach, Poglietti.

ALBAN BERG:        Lulu                   / Deutschen Oper Berlin, Karl Böhm

The unfinished version. Here the opera ends with the duo Alva/Lulu "Durch dieses Kleid". Obviously, this cannot be compared with the complete versions. But the direction of Böhm is splendid, Fischer-Dieskau a very impressive Doktor Schön, and Evelyn Lear a good Lulu, even if I prefer Stratas or Silja.

I loved the sound of these clips in this second Wallace piano collection on Naxos. Lots of enjoyable and melodic music played by Rosemary Tuck...

How do you like the set?  My set is still in its cellophane over a year after I purchased it.  Too many CD's to listen and too little time ...
