No.15 from this disc. Good sound, tight playing all at the right tempos. Wouldn't rank high in emotional interpretation compared to others, but it's difficult to find any other negatives here. Everyone seems to be hitting up on Kondrashin's 15, may have to get it, to accompany my other 7 recordings of DSCH's most interesting symphony.

Likewise, our neighbors here have piqued my interest in the Staatskapelle Dresden recording.

That said, though: to-day is the day when I revisit the Cincy CD you picture!

Great, your enthousiasm is contagious :)
Since I am also exploring Strauss these days, I might as well give that one a try  :D

Glad to hear that! ;D

Oh, this No.1 is very exciting. Heavy in the bass, the second movement just gave me chills.

A fantastic performance of the 6th.

I agree. I'm very picky about the Shostakovich Sixth. Few satisfy me but Caetani's did.

I'll join ye, as I'm in a mood to bear (and want) late Shostakovich.

This morning's 9th, for a first listen;

Philharmonia Orchestra / Sanderling

I thought the direction to be quite plucky throughout the first 3 movements, but the finale was bafflingly lifeless, and the soloists, especially John Tomlinson (Bass/Baritone) to be singularly uninspired. Ah well.... :)

Doesn't sound as if it invites you back for a repeat listen, O Gurn . . . .

I rather like the veins of coolness in this;  they do not (I do not think) at all diminish the warmth of other strains.

This was my first Fifteenth, and I still likes it.
