It's just been re-released on that "Piano Classics" (or something of that sort) label.

Yes, I saw that edition too - so it is the same recording.

Pay particular attention to Lenny's first movement second theme, the strings like aural ice: so detached and emotionally chilling.

Got this today from my Mother as a BIRTHDAY present.

Yep, 43 years old for the rest of today!!  ;D  Can't wait to get home in 2 hours and perhaps start from high to low!!

I have Barenboim's BPO Warner Classics set of Bruckner Symphonies, always found them interestingly good.  Helgoland included.

Just wondering how this set measures against the rest, and especially against the BPO set.

A recital of Mozart Arias by Ildebrando D'Arcangelo.
Quite an interesting collection, with some unknown concert arias.

Cheers Karl,

Me thinks Bruckner 6th tonight for first call.  Followed by a Giuseppe Sabbatini recital cd I have just bought after spotting it for £6 new.  Love the Man & Voice, but been unwilling to pay £40+ and some a few years ago for a cd on the ZYX label.

I said that I was considering to buy the recording, but that before I wanted to have a listen to it to hear what it was like. The third and the four movement are stunning, now I'm really looking forward to listening to the whole performance! ;D

The whole performance is worth acquiring if you love this symphony. You won't be disappointed.

Happy Birthday!  That's a fine Bruckner set, you should enjoy it.

Keeping the party train moving, I've moved along to Shostakovich SYm # 9 from Kondrashin's set...
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

I listened to "Six Poems of Marina Tsvetaeva" (well, 5 of them, because one didn't make it onto my iPod for some reason) and "From Jewish Folk Poetry". What beautiful music!

Listening to Symphony No. 4. What a wild ride! Great performance so far.

If you have more to say of this performance, John, I should be interested.

Very good ear. Shostakovich's 2nd and 3rd are generally regarded as his weakest symphonies. They're almost nothing in the world but propaganda works. Like of today's radio jingle for example. They're trying to sell something [....]

Decided to take this to the Dacha.
