Mahler Das Lied von der Erde  Bruno Walter cond. NY Phil, with  Mildred Miller and Ernst Haefliger as soloists.
Recorded 4/18/1960

CD 6 of the Bruno Walter conducts Mahler Sony budget box.

Enjoying this much better than most of the rest of the set:  like the pacing, soloists seem to know exactly what they are doing,  and the sonics could be mistaken for something recorded in 2001 (or at least 1991).

Ah, The Walk to the Paradise Garden is a gorgeous work, Daniel. There are so many gems throughout Delius' output that await you in your exploration. Do you own any of recordings of his music?

It certainly is, John! A very beautiful work. I'm very much looking forward to listening to more of his work. I don't think I currently own any Delius cds in my collection, but plan to get some when I can! Thanks again for the Delius links you posted to me on facebook, John. I look forward to listening to them all. :)

Currently listening to one of David's favourite composers, just as he listening to mine. :)
:) And 3 of my favorite pieces, too! Of course Bach is another of my faves...but who doesn't love Bach?

Hang around for a while and you might catch a glimpse of a 'reflection'. ;)

Great stuff!  Hope it clicks for you.

Y'all have me doing it, too:

The only Delius disc I own. I've always regarded his music as pretty but not particularly memorable nor deep. Funny, I used to regard Sibelius and Vaughan Williams the same way. ;)

Gustav Mahler
Das Lied von der Erde

I was quite surprised when I saw this video for the first time; I read that Kleiber considered Mahler's music a neurotic mess (unlike his father who loved Mahler) and I didn't imagine he recorded Das Lied von der Erde. Pretty beautiful performance. ;D
