I really like Tubin's 1st a lot. The first movement alone is a miniature masterpiece. :)

Only my second full listen to Lemminkainen ever, and the first must have been 3-4 years ago!
Oh my. Try this--NML must have it.

Also a terrific En Saga.

I'll join you, Ilaria.
So - what do you think of this performance (and composition, too!), and what about the whole set?

A new acquisition. Listening to Seven Passages. An exciting work for sure.

Thanks to a bit of  prod from Don's "Favorite Operatist" poll:

An excellent entertainment, great singing and the sort of high end playing one comes to expect from Freiburg Baroque. Mozart's best? Sounds like it here. :)

Yeah, you know, I like it a good bit. I was just telling Brian, however, that I didn't think much of his 6th performance, but at the time I heard it, I was comparing a lot of 6th performances and I happened to listen to Vanska's before Segerstam's, so maybe this had something to do with my negative reaction to it? Do you own a lot of Sibelius, Bill?

Nope.  David Ross thought I might like this one many moons ago.  One cycle seems to fit my needs at this time.  Kind of like the Chailly Mahler.  Does not mean I will not get another (always liked the Pittsburgh run that I have heard), but probably will add another Mozart or LvB or Dvorak cycle (none of which I need) first.

I understand, Bill. You're a completely rational thinking person unlike myself who thinks he needs 19 Sibelius cycles. :D

Listening to Symphony No. 7. Listening to Symphony No. 7. My previous statements about Colin Davis' Sibelius considered, this is a fine Sibelius recording. Majestic performances. I might have to revisit all of Davis' LSO Live cycle.

A wonderful performance! :)

Though I do regret it is with new & upcoming singers instead of the best singers of our time (Fink, Schäfer, Güra, Gens, etc.).
