You'll probably enjoy it! :) So far Book III is the high point of the set.

Yes! Those are great, do you have their 9th, Daniel? Equally impressive.

I don't think I do, Greg, although I would love to hear it. The 'Great' is one of my favourite pieces of all time! :)

I have little doubts that if you enjoy Norringon/LCP in 4,5,6 and 8, you'll enjoy their 9th.

Thank you for the recommendation, Greg! I'll make sure to get hold of it! :)

Aside from the book format, which while wonderfully informative is hard to file, I find this to be probably the best of the 7 Monteverdi Orfeo versions I own. Now I need to get Poppea and Ritorno from the same source......

Just finished Nelsons' La Valse....  :o THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!   :)

Listening to his La Mer now. Also absolutely amazing.

Such an incredible conductor! :)

What a glorious, marvelous work.  Certainly one of the darkest in Shostakovich's oeuvre.

*By the way, the Barshai 1st movement clocks in at 27.27 minutes.  Is that one of the longest?

Shostakovich's 8th is my favorite symphony of his followed by the 5th, 6th, and 10th. Incredibly moving work.

It is indeed, John.  The 10th has been my favourite for a long time.  However, the 8th is probably my 3rd or 4th favourite, to be sure.  The 5th is my second favourite, followed by either the 8th or the 11th.

I used to be pretty enthusiastic about Shostakovich's 11th, and I do still like parts of it, but it doesn't hold a candle to the 5th, 8th, or 10th IMHO. I find the 2nd, 3rd, 11th, and 14th to be his weakest efforts.
