I did linger a bit in front of my collection in deciding with what music to start the day with
But why not this?  ;D

A very good mornning/day to you all! :)

Q - thanks for the comments & the audio snippets - that guy is FAST!  But that set would certainly be a 'nice' contrast w/ the Bylsma - need to listen to some more samples -  :D

I've reposted the whole Bach cello suites debate here: Bach's Chamber and Instrumental Music

That it may continue! :)

Agh, stop mentioning the Kletzki Beethoven cycle - I barely managed to avoid buying it last time it was mentioned :)

Lethe, that sounds toothsome, indeed!

It's a shame that his recent work has not impressed me - seems to have gone the way of Pärt and Kancheli, into The Land of the Boring :(

Now playing: Sibelius - Snöfrid, Op.29/BIS (then The Bard and The Oceanides - my favourite of his tone poems)

Non-clinical day in the office - Luigi Boccherini Clavier Quintets w/ the Ensemble Claviere seemed like a nice choice - outstanding valued Brilliant Box Set (4 CDs) -  :)

Great choice Dave, may you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

Shostakovich 11, Cluytens (Testament) 1958 Stereo

Superb sound and a thrilling performance from Radiodiffusion Francais.  Woodwinds to die for and such forthright agressiveness in the 2nd mvt attack.  A real recording to treasure.  The continual flow of the music throughout the 4 dramatic scene setter movements is amazing, Clutens never rests from the first second to the last.  Must be high up on the 11th mark as recordings go.

This must be the first time I have shelled out full price new on a cd for 10 years  ;D

This sounds great.  I don't think I've heard Cluytens in any repertoire other than Ravel.

PS, to Lethe: full disclosure, I actually don't have that Kletzki either, so... :-[

Actually, I have SOME willpower, it can wait :)

That might be an interesting thread: "What recording did you finally acquire after being badgered to death by other people?"  ;D

PS, grinning at Haffner...so why do I suspect that this technique won't work for something by Stockhausen;D
