You made at least one person very happy Andrei, I am 100% sure! :)

Sure thing, Harry, and I'm glad I did, he hasn't got much happiness here lately!

The cover is stunning, but it should be sung by a counter tenor.
Sara has a good voice, but not for this work, IMO.

There are no "shoulds" in my music-listening.  ;D

And I wouldn't know a counter-tenor if he bit me on the ass.

Zuill Bailey Cello Works, mainly w/ piano by various composers; saw him a few weeks ago in concert - wife wanted a CD (but I think she was more interested in his looks -  ;) ;D); he is quite a flamboyant performer, but a superb cellist - CLICK on the album pic for a listing of the works; as his encore he did Vieuxtemps Souvenir d'Amerique (variations on Yankee Doodle), which is included on the disc shown.  BTW - great reviews on Amazon except for one person (1* - can't really understand that one?); if interested, he does have a WEB SITE -  :D

Beethoven Piano Trios w/ Chung Trio; re-mastered 2-CD set @ a great price - just putting on the discs!  :)

Is that the version recorded live in Moscow in 1983 (RUSSIAN REVELATION) or the DGG version?

In my opinion the version live is much better.
The DG version that comes as a filler with the PCs. I've never heard there was another version. I'd be sure to check it out, what else is on the program?

Listening to :

Massenet - Piano Concerto's haunting Largo.

I was wondering what that was. I thought my shingles were back.

Bruckner 6: Haitink COA, Leitner Stuttgart. One more to go (a return visit to the Rögner RSO Berlin) and I'll be done with my 6th symphony recension. This has what is for me Bruckner's most beautiful slow movement, a font of unending beauty  0:)

Some Haydn sonatas played by Marc-André Hamelin. I compared a couple with Schornheim, who plays those particular ones on a harpsichord. Fascinating how it sounds utterly different. Be that as it may, Hamelin towers over any other player I heard. He makes these works endlessly interesting. Webern avant la lettre.

Haydn and Mozart symphonies played by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra under Szymon Goldberg. One of the 20th century's master violinists, Goldberg had a fantastic carreer. Concertmaster of the Dresden Philharmonic at 16, he was personally chosen by Furtwängler to become the BPO concertmaster at the tender age of 20 :o.  He had a close association with chamber music (played with Hindemith and Feurmann in a string trio, with Clara Haskil performing all over Europe), and toward the end of his carreer took up conducting (small ensemble). He had a long and fruitful partnership with the Netherlands band, with dozens of recordings on the Philips label.

On the evidence of these recordings (Bach violin concertos, Haydn symphonies 39, 57, 83, Mozart 21, 29 and some more) he was a refined musician, emphasizing a strong musical line within a flexible but firm rythmic framework. Beautiful stuff.

Love the Boyce works here.  What recording do you have?

I have the recent Naxos recording.  This is one of my favorite discs, ever.  I have all the Aradia Ensemble recordings, and I pick new ones up immediately.

The Harp Consort/Andrew Lawrence King

A fascinating composer, that sheds light on a dark day.
State of the art recording.

In both is beauty! :)

Harry, I'm disappointed. Shall I infer you prefer anorexic women? :(

Marriner. Mike suggested this recording and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. Thanks Mike, wherever you are.

Hamelin did one of those Haydn sonatas last summer at his recital here, first thing on the program, and he was just fantastic.  His clarity, even at high speeds, was impressive, and the whole thing had a lightness and humor that were most engaging.
