Very pleased with how the program went. I wrote Kevin Scott to report how well Minkh'ah was received, and he replied: And I enjoyed every second of it. The sound on my computer was okay, but I know that when I hear it through headphones it will sound better.

I have to get to work on the next piece. And my wife wants to hear it again.
We will have video and audio documents of the concert.

Dennis Báthory-Kitsz just finished his trio for us, Just Another Love Song, so the title of the April concert at King's Chapel will be Love Song & Ruin.

I am very much looking forward to those, as Mrs. Cato and I ended up being on the road Friday night for various reasons.

Although I like Chris's piece v. much, we've regretfully decided not to program it.

It's a meaty challenge, and if we were younger, we'd gladly roll up our sleeves and set to. But I am junior to both my flutists, and as they consider their commitments and practice time capacity, they cannot commit to creating the piece.

I saw a story on the news not too long ago.  It was about a UPS or FedEx driver being chased by a turkey while he was trying to deliver packages.  He still managed to do so, but had to run back to his truck and close the doors to evade it/them!

As a side note, a friend of mine told me that they can fly for short distances and like to sleep up in trees.  He said that he thought that they looked like bags of trash when they're up in the trees.   :o

Just had a chat over the phone with Chris. He had half-anticipated the concern. Says I, As I was listening on YouTube and half-glancing at the score, I thought, "reminds me of the flute orchestral excerpts from Daphnis." And Chris replied that that was in part whence the textures came. Which, of course, is simply composers finding inspiration in the literature. Chris will write a piece for the full sextet, though as yet only God knows what the date of the concert might be....
Pam Marshall just finished her new sextet. She's not sure she likes her title (Spiral Dreams.) I've suggested a simple grammatical inversion: Dream Spirals.
Nearer by for April, Frank Warren finished his Alto Flute/Bassoon duet, Three Notions of Love & Ruin.

Hah, exactly what I thought as I listened just now .. though perhaps it's not that surprising. Understandable in the circumstances that you decided not to include it, enjoyable as it is (imo), it looks quite tricky to pull off successfully.
