I once had a really nice chat to Karl on the phone. I don't know if that counts? Maybe half a point? If I add to that a couple of mail exchanges between us, it ought to get me nearly up to a full point, don't you think? (If there's any justice in the point system, that is.)

I think it counts.

God, if we keep this up Texas will supplant Chicago, Cleveland & Boston as National capital of Classical Music and the rednecks will feel like strangers in their own state...  ;)

I did witness a crowd during a Dallas SO concert erupt in applause right after the climax in the middle of movement I of Mahler's 2nd Symphony....Litton had to keep the orchestra sustained while waving off the applause with his non-baton hand, ambidextrous conductor?

I would hate to ruin my relationship with someone by meeting them face to face.  ;D

We'd do all right, even if we do bring our scales in hand for the instantaneous weigh-off . . . .

Well, but it's understood that I shan't weigh myself in your undies; and we can be positioned back to back.

This can still be done quite properly, without any need to be banned in Boston . . . .

Applause in between and even during movements has become endemic throught the world, including New York, London, Paris and Berlin.

We must keep in mind that this was actually the norm during Classical and Early Romantic times (and also that the programs back then were, by contemporary standards, fanciful in the extreme). It is only the Middle and Late Romanticism with their art-as-religion-and-artist-as-priest mistique that brought about and imposed the modern-style concert in which stiff and motionless people gaze in awe at the misteries taking place on the altar-stage...  ;)

That gets me every time I watch videos of concerts which take place at lavish halls or large cathedrals: the people in the first row, the most visible, don't even appear to tap their feet -- even when the music is unprofoundly* earthly. :D

Why, I have seen a toe tap even in Symphony Hall on occasion.

We have plenty of rednecks in Georgia too. I don't think I've ever met a Texas redneck.

I don't believe I met any, face-to-face . . . but I am given to understand that they're there, somewhere.

Yes, they're here, especially when start going to the smaller towns, especially in south GA.

I imagine it would be a near thing between GA and TX; neck and neck, you might say. 0:)
