...if for no better reason than....no reason in particular.  :-\

These are two for me:

Puccini
Liszt

Oh, this is a frosty thread.

20th Century ones and, just to show off my new vocabulary, those that created A.C., and just C. ;D

Not quite as bone chilling as your comments on Debussy though.   ;)

Hm.  Think I'll open the windows and get rid of some of this drowsy frowst . . . .

You sum up my current feelings towards Prokofiev quite well. It's an unusual feeling - I know he's very major, I know he's very good, but there are too many other composers I am interested in to allow a decent investigation of his music, and this will be the case for the foreseeable future... :-X

Does anyone really dare to ask me such questions ??? ??? ???
All of them I say, excluding Wagner and a few other screamers.
I'll take them all, whatever comes my way I'll explore, I think ;)

How about some cookies and Prokofiev, Sara?  8)

Can't eat just one . . . how about three oranges, Sara?

I don't think this thread is frosty at all! ;)

71 dB

I'm eager to explore 100 composers at most.
There's thousands and thousands of composers.
So, I'm not eager to explore most composers.

:P
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I tried Prokofiev this summer, some symphonies conducted by Neeme Jarvi. I didn't fall in love, so I'm no longer e2e.

Kullervo

Stockhausen. I honestly do want to hear his music, but it's too much of a gamble at Stockhausen-Verlag's prices. File under: "one day."

The fault may lie with the conductor, not with the composer.

Just something to consider.

He's recorded so much Prokofiev (and so much in general), that not all of it is going to be good. I saw your review of the CD with the Sinfonietta, Karl, and just by listening to those short Amazon clips, I could tell what you mean. It sounded underreharsed, and the entrances of the instruments were a bit off.

Don't you know? Debussy, like white wine, is best served chilled.  ;)
