Has anyone seen this work in performance (or heard what I understand is the only complete recording http://www.amazon.com/Arthur-Sullivan-Ivanhoe/dp/B000000WWK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1223433654&sr=1-1 )?*  Any thoughts?
Does anyone have any knowledge of rumours of the opera being released in the near future by Chandos?

I'm curious about it. Surely there have not been many opportunities for anyone to see it live in all the years since it was written. It's even rarer than The Grand Duke, which no one ever does, except compleatists. I've played at least half of the G & S operettas (including Utopia Limited) and conducted a community theater production of The Mikado. They're always lots of fun. I'm expecting that Sullivan without Gilbert would be a disappointment, but I can't say for sure without actually hearing it.

Update from Chandos for the interested...

QuoteChandos is proceeding with it's plans to record Ivanhoe in the next two or
three months, but we do not have a release date as yet. Therefore we suggest
that you keep an eye on our website  www.chandos.net where it will appear as
a new release in due course.
I hope that this is helpful.
With best wishes

Hi. I have a complete performance of Ivanhoe...sound is a bit mediocre for this "in house" recording, but the work is rather nice.  SS
