Today I sold on Amazon:

1) The 170 cd Mozart Brilliant set.

2) The 33 cd Haydn symphonies set on Brilliant

3) The 70 cd Gould set

I am so happy. Money is secondary but I get nervous looking at these sets knowing I will most likely not get through them, ever.

Next up is the 85 cd Beethoven set. It will most likely go tomorrow.

I am also pondering Karajan I and II, selling them that is.

How much for the Karajans?  And is that the Beethoven symphony HvKs?  Or one of the new box sets of his life?

Not sure I want to part with the Karajans yet...the two EMI big boxes that is. There are so operas like Tristan that I like. Also the orchestral box is pretty good. I think I'll hang on to it for now.

This is my current inventory:

You and other GMG members get free shipping via media mail if you are interested. United States shipping addresses only please.

These all have booklets and complete packaging?  The Solti and/or Furtwangler Beethoven and the Gilels Beethoven could be tasty...which Furt 9th is it?

Sounds like an idiotic enterprise.  Who cares if you don't listen to every CD in every set?  You own the CDs, they don't own you.  I own a number of big sets from which pluck a disc to listen every now and then.  Buying these sets and selling them (presumably for a loss) is just flushing money down the toilet.  On the other hand, just as in the stock market, whenever someone loses money in the market, it just means someone else made money.  We should be presumably be happy that someone smarter than you is getting these sets cheaper.

:o I'm surprised to read this PW! The 170 CD Mozart Brilliant set always gets excellent reviews! Am I missing something here  ??? ??

No point in keeping stuff you know you'll never hear, but considering, for example, how inexpensive the Brilliant Mozart Edition is, I would advise any classical fan to pick it up even if they will only ever listen to part of it. There are many superb recordings in there. Awesome value.

Thank you for your contribution. Why don't you buy a few items and make an idiot out of me then?

I already have most of the major operas, symphonies, concerti, etc.. I looke through the set and see a bunch of useless stuff like divetimenti(sic), dances, and miscellaneous keyboard stuff that I have zero intension of exploring. I picked it up for $50 on ebay.

The Solti Beethoven and Giles set don't have the outer cardboard case but has the liner notes. Furt's b9 is from '42.

I'd be happy to, but what you're selling at the moment doesn't interest me.  I actually had that Haydn box, ended up selling it because I thought it compared poorly with the Dorati set, which I still have (but have only listened to a third of so far).   The Gould, well I have one CD of Gould and I think that is enough for me.  Too bad you're not dumping the Brilliant boxes of Couperin or Bach harpsichord music.  Those have been moldering in my shopping cart for a while, to pricey.

I had the Couperin, but I sold it...don't really care for the music but that's just me.
Not a big fan of Gould either. The sonics on a lot of the discs that I listened to on that set is horrible also, metallic, dry and sometimes a lot of distortion. Also I can't listen to Gould humming along all the time. Maybe he is a genius like others said but not my cup of tea.

OTOH the Beethoven 85 cd set is a goner  :)

Is the Leitner Bruckner 9 really "new in shrinkwrap"?

Some of the divertimenti are actually quite diverting :) I understand if you only want one recording of each piece, but I'm happy to have different recordings of the ones I enjoy, particularly when many in that set are so good.

Yes, but that shouldn't be on the list. I think I got trigger happy. Just removed it. I think you can get it from BRO for $3.99.

So is it still in shrinkwrap because you haven't listened to it or because you have a duplicate copy?

Because I have not gotten to listening to it yet, along with Barenboim/BP cycle and a bunch of other Bruckner cds. I am currently not in much of a Bruckner mood (kind of like you and Mahler I guess) so maybe in the future I will get to it.
