PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh police say a volunteer for John McCain's presidential campaign volunteer made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter "B'' scratched on her face in a politically inspired attack.

Maurita Bryant, the assistant chief of the police department's investigations division, says Ashley Todd is being charged with making a false report to police.

Bryant says the 20-year-old college student from Texas admitted Friday that the story was false.

Todd is white. She told police she was attacked by a black man Wednesday night.

She claimed she gave the attacker $60 before he pinned her to the ground and scratched the letter "B'' on her right cheek.

Bryant says Todd can't explain why she invented the story or explain how the "B'' was scratched onto her face.

You know what this was?  How much do you want to bet that this horsePOO was all coordinated?

Don't you see what's going on?  Cute, adorable all-American white girl gets mugged, attacked, and mutilated by a mysterious BLACK man.  OMG, this is proof that we CAN'T vote for Obama!  He's a thug!  A terrorist!  A danger!  After all...MCCain and Palin EACH called her to offer their wishes and support...SOO NICE!!!  But Obama...well, if he weren't running, then these thugs would never feel so empowered!  They scratched a "B" on her face and everything!

Wow, a made up story to instill doubt and mistrust toward the opposition?

That tactic hasn't been used for centuries! Oh, wait, Bush used it in 2003, that's right...

How do you know it wasn't orchestrated by the other side precisely to make you think McCain was involved?

Good point.  Just like it was dukakis who created the willie horton ads, mccain who created the pushpols in 2000, kerry who was behind the swift-boat vets for truth in '04, and Bush who was behind 9/11!

Oddly enough, this was my first thought when I read the original. Rather more bizarre than I can quite figure, given my already confused mental condition... :-\

Since you seem to be aware of the irony behind those conspiracy theories, why did you feel compelled to bring up a conspiracy of your own?

There are enough reasons not to vote for Obama that this probably won't sway anyone either way.

I don't agree with this sentiment but I do think that at this point most people have already decided for whom they're voting.

To establish how stupid the notion is!!!!  The same way I have no patience for wingnuts who belive that Bush conjured up 9/11 and implemented it, your idea here is just plain STOOOOOPID.

Let's see...the woman was canvassing for McCain (as opposed to just some anonymous person)...Obama's go a comfortable lead, so he doesn't need to pull desperate shit like this...the thought process you're talking about is fairly complex with a WIIIIIDE range to backfire...the last thing Obama needs is news distracting from the BIGGER news that he's picked up the endorsements TODAY of former GOP gvrs of Mass. and Minn. (and earlier in the week Colin Powell)

Really...dude...at the least, McCain and Palin personally called the woman, when advisors were telling them that the authorities already had doubts about her story...the only reason a story like this makes the national press is bc someone wants it to...if nothing lese bad judgement on McCain's part to call this insane little liar.

Oh, but it seemed like SUCH a good PR opportunity...

Yeah, the Obama campaign is going to orchestrate a false criminal report that involves an imaginary black man assaulting a white woman.

I guess the point i was trying to make just went over your head.

Those were all historical facts, matters of public record.  Where do you get the idea that they were conspiracy theories?

I guess you'll just have to be less subtle and clever.

I didn't get your point because your rhetorical question makes a false equivalence between Obama, who has every motivation not to inflame white racial hysteria, and McCain, who has been running a sleazy, negative campaign.

Now, do I think McCain had anything to do with this?  No, of course not.  His camp is a little more sophisticated than that.  Even batshit crazy Michelle Malkin didn't fall for this one.

That's why it's not wise to orchestrate this kind of things. You never know how people take them.

Maybe i am being too clever. In the conspiracy i (sarcastically) envisioned, the point would have been to make McCain look even more of a sleazy bastard by coming up with this fantastic story, wait for McCain to take the bite (which he did), and then reveal that it was all a hoax.

It's obvious that neither McCain nor Obama had anything to do with this. The mirrored "B" and the painted on black eye are just too  ridiculous to believe it was all orchestrated by either group but at this point it really doesn't matter anymore. The damage has been done.

I guess not as sophisticated as I thought.  They certainly seemed willing to use this.

"John McCain's Pennsylvania communications director told reporters in the state an incendiary version of the hoax story about the attack on a McCain volunteer well before the facts of the case were known or established -- and even told reporters outright that the "B" carved into the victim's cheek stood for "Barack," according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions."

Then tell me one.

(Even if there were a few, there are still hundred of reasons not to vote for the GOP)

Wow, that's a lot of moving parts to make happen. So let's see...the Obama camp got a 20 year old girl to make a mockery of herself in her commhunity and to the entire world...she now has legal fees, potential criminal charges, McCain was dumb enough to fall for the whole thing (so he'd be a good POTUS....how?), and now racists (like, ahem, YOU) will renounce thier once evil ways and embrace not only black people, but even vote for one as presdient.

So likely!

So now that it hasn't worked out for you, it's "obvious" that neither candidate had anything to do with it (but their campaign?  hmmmm....) and wou want to forget about it.

Have you ever considered becoming the new Ann Couletr?  The world needs a new right-wing pundit who talks out of nothing but their ass...
