Symphonic Addict

Quote from: T. D. on August 14, 2024, 07:47:40 PMOutstanding (though quirky) opera. I once saw it live, have the old Leitner recording. There have been several recordings (incl. DVD releases), Nagano mainly comes to mind. But it's good to see more.

I have yet to give that opera a first listen, and I see it's a long one.

The booklet for Victor Nicoara's CD Polyphonic Dreams - the music on the recording is rare and rather good - well worth exploring. It's convinced me that the Sieben kurze Stücke is a major masterpiece for piano - it's been recorded before by Madge, in a rather workmanlike way.

Quote from: Cato on August 01, 2024, 02:14:37 AMTry this one from the 1950's with Joseph Szigeti, one of the great violinists of the last century:

I find the vibrato almost wobbles off into quarter-tones, which I find fascinating, others might find it too distracting.

Then we have this one from the 1950's with Max Rostal: the vibrato is much tighter.

Enjoying Jenny Abel and Leonard Hokanson this morning.
