I improved that artwork with simple modifications:

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

That's rather bizarre...made me think that he was either being x-rayed or had been exposed to a nasty dose of radiation!  :o

It is a photographical technique datung from the thirties/ Man Ray, then considered quite avant garde. So, in a way it does suit Haba.

Rather than inducing a desire to listen to chamber music, that induces a desire to call a doctor.

Paris? Napoleon?

I dunno. It's a nice enough picture even if the meaning currently escapes me. But we've had plenty of examples before on this thread where it turns out there IS a meaning.

I honestly question the wisdom of people using this thread for "I don't understand this cover", because to me worst looking artwork will generally mean the actual image is poor quality. And this isn't.

As a photo, I think it's a good one.

But overall, my main point is: If it has some arcane or cryptic meaning, why create an artwork that might be understood by only a select few, if at all?

The only connection I could see would be Napoleon; cf. the famous picture with him on horseback. Hegel called Bonaparte "Weltgeist zu Pferde", "the world spirit on horseback", roughly a concrete personalization of the spirit that moves world history.
Tout le malheur des hommes vient d'une seule chose, qui est de ne savoir pas demeurer en repos, dans une chambre.

That's as good an explanation as any.

I'm frankly surprised that nobody here understands the cover.  Because I am an atheist and I got it:

QuoteAnd I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Book of Revelations 6:8

So no it is a great cover.

Because it's artwork, not a library catalogue entry. It's designed to evoke a mood. If you want understanding that's what the track list on the back is for. Or the liner notes.

Can I read some irony in your answer? ::)

Actually, it's a subtle reference to Magritte. This is not a horse. The real one is dead. Requiem eternam dona eis domine et lux perpetua luceat eis (and indeed, the horse which is not a horse is in a typically equine resting position and there's shining light behind the horse which is not a horse). ;D

Furthermore, regarding the Paisiello Coronation Mass, the horse connection may be that as an Emperor, Napoleon's horse would also be white.
The connection between Mozart's Requiem and Napoleon, on the other hand, is not speculative: the work was performed during his final burial in Les Invalides in 1841.
