Dancing Divertimentian

Bartok. Up now, the first piano concerto, Kocsis, Fischer w/ the Budapest Festival Orchestra. The first PC is every bit as good as the second PC, but without a single concession to the melodic/lyric (a la the second). Not that the second PC's "concessions" amounted to much, but one thirteen second stretch of the finale had me wondering if my CD player had skipped to a different work.

But the first PC stays true to its brittle roots for the duration and what a fantastic ride it is.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

I still haven't heard enough of her work, what's the best entry?
Caught in Treetops is my favourite of her works. This is the only CD recording of her works as far as I know, but there are other pieces she has uploaded to her soundcloud page that haven't been released in any commercial recording.

Yes, I have that, but......... :-[  All I can say is that Dauce is intimate with superb singers.

Thanks.  :) And I guess an excellent new recording is always welcome.

It's not like there is such an abundance of choice at the moment....Wiliam Christie is now almost 72 - time for some new talent on the scene.

The new erato

I have most of Dauce's recordings og Harmonia Mundi and have been extremely impressed by all of them. A safe buy without checking out the critics.

Now playing another superb disc:

[asin]B000001GGS[/asin]

Really superb, some of the best Brahms playing I've heard.

Finishing off this set this morning....

Fantasia Op. 58
Fantasia Op. posthumous
Fantasia Elegiaca Op. 59

I have always liked the music of Sor and this set does the Fantasias great justice with the playing, interpretations and recording.

Plus, it excludes the ones I listen to least! I wonder why no 8th or 9th?

The project to record all the Mahler Symphonies with the Berliners was halted, if it was ever seriously planned, and in any case Haitink doesn't and never liked the 8th and only performed/recorded it once, as a concession, to his planned-as-such integral cycle. I'm missing one or two recordings from this "Haitink III", if you will (considering the Kerstmatinee cycle No. "II") and it's fascinating, if nothing else, for extremes not usually taken by Haitink and a glorious breadth. (Or languor, depending on your perception.)

Liszt: Ce qu'on entend sur la montagne [Noseda]....

A very powerful but nonetheless sensitive rendition of this wonderful work. Rich orchestral timbres enhance the mood.
