I have come to the conclusion that Agon is in fact one of my favorite Stravinsky works, it's just so......woah!  8)

An awesome work that's for sure. It's in my 'Top 10'. 8)

My revised list:

The Rite Of Spring (Le Sacre)
Symphony in Three Movements
Requiem Canticles
Agon
Symphonies of wind instruments
Variations for Huxley
Three Pieces For String Quartet
Oedipus Rex
The Soldiers Tale
Les Noces  8)

The Three Pieces are arguably something of an idiosyncratic choice, but of course:  why not?  8)

Here goes nothing:

Le sacre du printemps (of course -- 8) )
Petrouchka
The Fairy's Kiss
Jeu de cartes
Agon
Violin Concerto
Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra
(another vote for this work as it's highly underrated)
Symphony for Wind Instruments
Dumbarton Oaks
Mass

I'm still quite satisfied with this list, so I'll leave it alone (for a change). :)

I couldn't find an existing thread on this, which I find suspicious...

An international anti-Igor conspiracy?  No worries, he has laid them all to waste with an oeuvre that astounds for its variety, creativity, and overall scintillating brilliance.  A half-century from now he will be bigger than LvB, mark me.

Le Sacre
Der Feuervogel (sorry, I like the way it sounds in German)
Petrushka
VC
Symphony in C
Symphony of Psalms
Octet for Wind ('52 version)
Concerto for Two Pianos (Igor said it was 'perhaps' his favorite among his purely instrumental works, must be good )
Le Rossignol
Dumbarton Oaks

I like Conor71's "I  like old Music" signature.

Turns out I have new favourites, after rekindling my love for Stravinsky during my sabbatical:

Song of the nightingale
Requiem Canticles
Agon
Oedipus Rex
Variations for Huxley
Symphony in Three Movements
Abraham and Isaac
Symphonies of wind instruments
Concerto for piano and winds
The Firebird/The Soldiers Tale
THIS is a MUCH better list 8)

amw

Requiem Canticles
Orpheus
Movements
Mass
Variations
Canticum Sacrum
Symphony of Psalms
Threni
Duo concertant

after that I had to go to iTunes to look through a list of compositions by Stravinsky I had recordings of to come up with a #10, which I think would be the Symphony in C, probably.

That also reminded me I don't actually own a recording of Canticum Sacrum though, which I will need to fix immediately.

Yes, I'm actually trying to decide between that one and this one:

I must admit I am not familiar with the one North Star has recommended (but I trust his taste   :) ), but the recording by Simon Preston is simply outstanding, and is by far my favourite of the work (and I know quite a few  ;)).

Regards,

amw

The Hyperion recording, to my ears, seems sweeter and less sharp-edged, with the voices slightly less brought to the foreground. That said, the voices are also more in tune. The Preston recording is earthier and more Byzantine, somehow otherworldly in its severity. I am leaning towards it, but may need both. (These are all among my favourite Stravinsky works after all.)

ComposerOfAvantGarde

I didn't find that recording on Hyperion much to my taste. But then again, I haven't found many recordings I particularly find definitive on Hyperion anyway.

A fine list, but some changes need to be made:

Le sacre du printemps
Petrouchka
Apollon musagète
Symphony of Psalms
Mass
Violin Concerto
Symphonies of Wind Instruments
Duo concertant
Agon
Concerto in E-flat, "Dumbarton Oaks"
