As an Indians fan, I completely understand how important misery is  ;D

Well at least from the remaining teams your city has the best orchestra.

I don't like how the ENTIRE WORLD is saying what a nice story it would be for the Cubs to win a WS, like the world owes them something. You want a WS go like the Red Sox and beat the big bad Yankees (or whatever the equivalent is this year).

My Dodgers are the new Big Bad Yankees, only we haven't won anything in over a quarter century to warrant much hatred. May we start this year!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Yes, until you win something you are not going to have a big fat target on your back. The Red Sox were a bunch of nobodies until they beat the Yanks.

Can't root for the Dodgers either, but being a METS fan I am glad they took care of those Nats.

As only a casual baseball follower (I'm more of an NFL / NBA fan), it had been lost on me that the Cubs haven't won a title since 1908:o

Not so, not so. You need I think another lesson this week!

Sorry, Ken...won't happen this week. But your sad clown face is the more appropriate avatar today, now that the "team Canadians can't name" have demolished the Blue Jays.

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Yes, sad.
The bright side is that that orchestra and that beer will be allowed in a couple of days!

Added: And of course like any decent human I will be cheering for the American League team in the World Series. Once I am able to speak its name.

Yeah that's why there is this supposedly "feel-good" story about how they deserve to win one. Personally I wouldn't mind if they don't win a WS for the next century.

Prior to 2004 the Boston Red Sox hadn't won a WS since 1912 and prior to 2005 the White Sox no WS win since 1917 so it is not that unsual that a big market team has no WS wins for 100 yrs.

Has there been a team in recent history been more hyped up and been a complete disappointment than the Natinals?  (Perhaps the Dodgers, but they haven't had much fanfare as the Nats.  The Dodgers have always had the Giants to contend with in terms of off-season hype and this past season the D-Backs.)  It seems like for the last 5 or so years, the Nats were "clear" favorites to win the NLE yet have failed to advance past the divisional series, if they even make the playoffs.

Much has been said about the missed opportunities for the Braves in the 90s winning only one world series, but they made 4 appearances and won one.  The Phillies mini-dynasty made 2 appearances and won one.  The Natinals can't even get the the NLCS yet they are hyped every off-season as the best team in the NL.

Damn Yankees practically ran the table during spring league, and then got their asses stomped into a mud hole on Opening Day. Sure hope it isn't gonna be another one of those years. :-\

PS - I know, it's only the first day, it's a long season, yada yada. That always leads into 'wait 'til next year'.

Upcoming series against the Yankees ought to be good

The postseason is almost filled out.  Hopefully the 12-2 win last night is a prelude to the series against Boston, but Cleveland will be tough

Grown men, playing a child's game..... Bah, humbug.

But I can remember when my daydream was to be Bobby Mercer and play the outfield with Roy White.

Fixed.

Didn't Joe Pepitone play first during their tenure?

Couldn't spell then, either.

Pepitone did overlap with them, but not when I was a fan. My favorite team had infield Ron Blomberg, Horace Clark, Gene Michael, Greg Nettles. In the outfield was generally Murcer, Roy White and Matty Alou. Thurman Munson was behind the plate and my favorite pitchers were Mel Stottlemyre and Sparky Lyle.

No fans here?

The postseason is shaping up, with the best three, maybe four teams in the AL, hard to see that the WS will be as thrilling as last year
