I currently use Tidal for a streaming service. It offers great quality and that is why I prefer it.

I am however disappointed with their classical library, particularly new releases.

Half the new releases they offer are crossover and taking theses out leaves little. Plus the service clearly sees Classical as a left over genre. They pay no attention to it.

So, which is the best classical streaming service in your opinion.

As I said, my top concern is the largest availability of new releases.

Thanks!

I was on Spotify for years, and found their Classical selection to be quite expansive and varied. I recently switched to Apple Music, primarily because all of my hardware is from Apple, and it's been alright, I don't think the selection is as good. Have been considering going back to Spotify.

What do they mean by hi-def? I can find nothing specific.  https://www.spotify.com/us/premium/

"Just trust us, it's really good" is how I take it.

(I use nothing Apple and won't)

If you subscribe to Premium the quality increases from 160 kbps to 320 kbps. A good selling technique to get free listeners to upgrade and pay. I did notice a difference for sure, but most of my listening was on earbuds while traveling, driving or away from my home CD collection.

I'm happy with Spotify Premium. Only use it at my headphones, especially when travelling and abroad. The collection is huge; only specialist labels like Dutton are not always available, but most is. The same applies to non-classical music, and I often wander across musical landscapes.

Hi, Christo. I also believe that Spotify does a great job with their preset playlists. If i recall, Classical had more than a dozen playlists that ranged from Early Music, to Minimalism
The non-classical playlists were great as well. I like a good techno/electronic, or even an 80's mix every now and then.  8)

I am very concerned about new releases.... Is this service good in that regard?

Fairly happy with Deezer. I care about metadata, important for searching. And while it's not perfect I've never seen anything as downright embarrassing as when Spotify tried to tell me the most popular Samuel Barber work they had was The Barber of Seville.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Yikes! let's hope Spotify doesn't' start putting Symphony No. 3 The Camp Meeting, or The Unanswered Question on this album...

Just my own experience: I find most of the newest releases I'm looking for - but usually that concerns composers like Vaughan Williams, Holmboe, or other British and Northern composers. No idea if that's representative of the 'bigger' labels and repertoire.

Naxos Music Library if you're after repertoire. Qobuz if you're after sound quality.

I find no such Devices page for Naxos or Qobuz.

Any can help?

Currently, I have Tidal and Apple Music accounts, and unfortunately - in my experience - there is not a better option  than Tidal in terms of sound quality, if we exclude Qobuz, a very limited service in terms geographic range and repertoire. In the past, I tried Spotify and Naxos Music Library, but their sound quality was disappointing.

ClassicsOnline was amazing when it wasn't limited to Naxos group; but that time is gone.  :(

You won't find many new releases in the very limited Genre listing.  You have to search for them individually based on some other source of info about new releases.

I don't know why they can't just add a list of the latest classical recordings added to their database.

NML's mobile app is trash, or at least was last time I used it. Which is a shame.

Qobuz's mobile player is decent, though the cache needs periodic cleaning so it doesn't take over your phone. (http://www.qobuz.com/fr-fr/applications)

This service seems to be out of Russia: the selection is amazing.  One used to be able to listen for free, but now a donation is necessary.  They also offer scores!

I have not yet paid the $20.00 for a 3-year subscription.
