I have the Vermeer in the shopping basket but has yet to click the purchase button...

OMG, is it the one that's been missing from Boston?  :o  ;)  8)

Thank you, HIPster! You're one of the ones I rely on for some Baroque recommendations. :)

:D

Thread duty. These aren't purchases I made today, but they're quite recent and are my latest classical purchases.

(This latter set should be named in the "Bargains" thread, if it hasn't been already: 9 CDs for 26 bucks and change.)

Thanks, Alek!   ;)

That Biondi set looks like a winner in all regards.  Forum member Gordo recently recommended this one (anything Baroque that dude recommends is bound to be top shelf in my experience 8)).

Never waste a good reason for a purchase....  ;)

Great to see some Vivaldi fans around! No one beats Biondi and Europa Galante in the concertos. 8)

I know nothing about this Feltsman recital, but I like what I've heard from him and it was cheap.

I know some of that Bernstein album (LPs), it´s very good, and varied.

Sorabji: Symphonic Nocturne, for piano / piano classics 2CD

Jan Klusak: 10 Inventions, etc., mainly for orchestra / Supraphon 2CD

As I move away from the beaten path of the standard repertoire & what I´ve already got, I must say that any real highlights in the new buyings also tend to be fewer. These are all-right, though, if not sensational.

I am really curious what you are going to make of the Fux box.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

I blame this one on Spineur  ;) :

Well actually, I blame this one on myself  ;D. I had been ponedring this recording for quite a while, as I wanted to get to know Strauss's own adaptation of his Salomé to Wilde's original French text. Also, I saw Nagano conduct the opera during his tenure in Munich (and remember the performance fondly). So, actually, I thank Spineur for bringing it to our attention recently here on GMG.  :)

And as a bonus (both purchased at a B&M store here in Madrid):

I already know the original 1915 El amor brujo from another excellent recording (conducted by an acquaintance of mine, Juan de Udaeta), and actually got for El retablo de Maese Pedro with a treble singing Trujamán. I already own several recordings (Toldrá, Argenta, Freitas Branco) of his marvelous opera, but all with a female soprano in the role.
