Hello all,

I don't post much here any more, but for those who remember me, or who love Janacek, or opera in general, I am directing The Cunning Little Vixen by Janacek this summer at the Arcola theatre in London as part of the Grimeborn festival. I would love to see some of you come along - I have a fabulous cast including Alison Rose as the Vixen who is vocally ideal and a brilliant actress - she will have her debut at the English National Opera next season. I'll post this on the Janacek thread too.

Tickets can be got here:

Let me know if you are coming and we can have a chat afterwards!

Well, I live across the pond from you (and, I confess, I'm not much for opera  :-[), but that is über cool.

EDIT: And best wishes for a very successful production!

I just noticed the Grimeborn festival the other day, and meant to take a look at the programme.

I'd like to take my partner to something, but it has to be the right choice. A couple of years back I took him to the ENO's new La Boheme, which was absolutely ghastly. Dreadful "modern" production, mediocre singing and conducting. It almost put him off for good.

Thanks for the nudge, Guido, and best of luck with the performances.

Good to hear from you! I think it will be great fun, I have some lovely singers, and it's very cheap for even the good seats, and not long either, so not much of a risk! Hope you can make it.

And rest assured, this will be a rather "traditional" production, with the animals as animals, humans as humans, nature as nature etc. I'm not at all a fan of the recent productions where Vixen is made into a gypsy girl or similar.

Best,

Thanks for the information, Guido. I shall certainly attend - after all, I live only about a mile away from the Arcola theatre.

And attend I did this evening. Highly recommended and well worth the effort if you can get to it.
