Order placed.  The first three my wife and I heard excerpts from on the radio and immediately enjoyed them.  A number of composers I have never even  heard of are featured.  Thanks for some insight concerning a couple of these Harry.

Thanks Don and Que for recommending this last one.  Just 205 to go.  ;D

Very interesting pickings, Bill! :)
The first two look particularly intriguing.

The first three were played (at least pieces from) on the wekly baroque radio show my wife and I enjoy Que.  There is also a Vol. II to the violin disc that I may consider if find this one to be enjoyable from beginning to end.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Excellent choices, both. ;)

It's not the Sony 1966 version, but the earlier 1957, Epic recording  ;)

I think the finale in this earlier recording blazes more intensely than the later recording...

A couple of arrivals today. The 2nd one is Prokofiev symphonies 1 and 7 by Rozhdestvensky/USSR Radio & TV Symphony Orchestra (on Consonance).

I heard it played on Radio 3 (or was it Classic FM?) - most compelling beginning to that symphony that I've ever encountered. Must get that disc.

It's a (very) big chunck  :o - will keep me busy on the operatic front for at least a year or two! ;D
The biggest box set I ever bought after the Scott Ross/Scarlatti (34 CDs)...

The biggest box I have bought is the Brilliant Classics Mozart box (170 CDs).
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.
