Indeed...you may have found the connection, George.

Really, dude...I think only the Concertgebouw rivals the hall in Dry Gulch...but of course the Dutch don't have those marvelous saloon girls which add immeasurably to the atmosphere.

I wasn't the first but I may have been the second one here to sing the praises of this marvelous CD. Maybe the original will step forward and claim credit. I'd like to thank him again.

Karl - believe that I've owned that recording when first released, and still in my collection!  Must find that combination w/ Rostropovitch playing quite agreeable!  ;D

Harry, as a Telemann expert, what's your take on Brilliant's Taffelmusik with Jan-Pieter Belder? Recommended or not?

Florestan -there are a number of us Telemann fans on the Forum (but not too many -  ;D) - check out this Thread in the Old Forum, along w/ the thread referenced on 'Tracking Telemann'.  Plenty of recommendations - also, I've had that Brilliant box for a while, and agree w/ Harry that for the price, the offering is unbeatable, so go for it!  :)

Can you help an old pair of eyes out? What are the contents of this CD?

Johan Halvorsen: symphony no. 3.  I was a bit disappointed by the second symphony. I found that a certain structural stiffness stifled the composer's melodies (some of them really good) and his obvious talent at orchestration. The third is different and really better. A 3 movement  design, bolder gestures, a truly spectacular orchestration and the same melodic felicity as in the second. Indeed, I was more than once reminded of Attterberg - but he was Halvorsen's junior, so he's the one who might have been under the older composer's influence!

All in all, a very good disc. Atterberg fans would love it.
