Just bought:

I suppose curiosity got the better with the purchase of this box set.

There is enough variety among the pieces included something should catch your interest.

I ended up cancelling the order, Jeffrey. Curiosity actually didn't win in the end. ;) There is one composer of some interest in the set and it's George Walker (his passing some time ago caught my attention). I see that there's a series devoted to his music on Albany Records. I might check that out.

Some historic recordings of music by Edgar Varèse, including the first CD release of the survey of the composer's music that Robert Craft made for Columbia, plus Hermann Scherchen conducting the world premiere of Déserts, and Ionisation under its creator Nicholas Slonimsky.

The cover says "Volume I", but these are actually 3 CDs, and I don't see what they'd be able to include in a "Volume II" (even if Amériques is conspicuously absent from this collection).

Nice! I really like Varèse, so I look forward to your comments on the quality of these performances, Rafael.

Edit: Instead of buying that 'Black Composers' box set, I ended up buying this Varèse set instead. Of course, I blame you, Rafael. ;)

If this thread turns into "Not Purchased Today" then we're gonna need a bigger server for this site.

Mmmm...I still haven't received the set, so don't know whether it's good, bad or indifferent. I therefore decline any responsibility... ;) ;D

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural

Very much interested in these three, I look forward to your findings Poul!

A great, and embarrassingly cheap, haul at a local used record store.

I love that Maurice Sendak Cover of Mahler 3!
And that 1980s or early 90s Decca/London with proud "DIGITAL" ribbon makes me nostalgic (although I would not have cared much for the music as a teenager back then).

Hoping I may have bought the complete Hindemith sonatas box on am.uk marketplace - long OOP and individual volumes often at silly prices:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Sonatas-Vol-1-7/dp/B0000521D0

Listing is a bit confusing as it says "3 discs", yet picture is clearly of a shrink-wrapped 7-volume box.  We shall see - may find myself printing a return label in a couple of weeks.

Good luck!

Thanks - must admit, my recent Hindemith splurge notwithstanding, that it was bought somewhat as an investment - £40 seemed pretty good given that individual volumes seem to be priced in the teens, as and when they appear at all.
