If I were you, I would check out Symphony No. 3, "Song of the Night" or Stabat Mater next.

I've heard them. In fact I'm 90% sure I heard the Rattle album everyone is recommending. The emphasis was on what I properly know.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

I don't think it was me as months ago I didn't really enjoy Boulez, but this was before I actually gave the music a chance. It might have been steve ridgeway or Rafael (ritter). Perhaps even Mandryka.

Oh, I meant that Rattle/Szymanowski disc. I may not have replied to the right post.

Ah, okay, then, yes, I might have commented on your post in regards to this Szymanowski Rattle recording.

Having said that, Ritter and Mandryka have definitely both put me onto some excellent recordings, too. Grateful for that!

Speaking of, here is my TD for this morning:

Two discs of Chitose Okashiro, a Japanese pianist that Mandryka put me onto a few months ago. I paid less than $4 each, shipping included. She may be all but completely unknown, but she is a damn fine Scriabinist. Apparently, she has also transcribed Mahler's 1st symphony for solo piano.

Sure, when it arrives (online order) and I have time to listen.
But I got the impression from a post of yours on a Ring thread in the Opera/Vocal forum ( https://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,3576.900.html#lastPost ) that you had heard the whole Goodall cycle...

Carlo Gesualdo

Jacob Praetorius (the elder) on CPO not to be confused whit Jakob Praetorius another musician of same family whit same name but
the other younger one an organist only.

I completed my Manchester Renaissance Polyphony ensemble E.P release there really good.

The post you're quoting is about the Neuhold cycle. My experience of the Goodall Ring dates back from the LP days, over 30 years ago... 8)

Does anyone own this box? I just purchased a used copy and it came without a printed booklet. Apparently there are two editions: a long box and a short box. I have the short one. It contains a CD titled "Booklet", so perhaps they dispensed with the printed booklet, but the box still has plenty of room for a booklet, so I suspect one is missing.

The disc labeled 'booklet' is probably replacing the actual printed one. I have the individual discs (except opus 18) but not this box. I like the interpretations a lot.

JBS

I have the long box, but don't remember which case it's filed away in.  I do remember it had a normal booklet.

I own the short box, bought from new. it only has the CD-Rom in lieu of booklet. No booklet at all.

Thanks, good to know. I won't pursue a refund then. BTW momox has been selling these for $15. Mine got banged up in transit because the envelope they use is so thin, but if you don't mind taking a chance it's a good price.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"
