I have a  DELL Inspiron 15 5593 approx 15-18 months old with Windows 10.
It has developed a fault with the keyboard (keyboard lag) which renders it impossible to type any document or use on any web site, the space bar does not work some letters (n) do not work, I now have to revert to my old desk top to do these tasks, I have been to both DELL and W10 forums but cannot find a fix, is it a driver and if so how do I fix. I do have a DELL USB stick with W10 loaded on it should I use this?

I am no expert (just another lowlife stuck with Windows), but I assume your warranty is up? Only one year? If not, I would definitely get on the phone and start complaining.

I have seen Windows 10 (like every Windows version before it) do some absolutely mind-bending, alternate universe, bonkers things, especially lately, but your problem sounds like more of a hardware issue with the keyboard itself. Perhaps boot into Safe Mode or command line and try the keyboard. If it is still the same, then I think it is your hardware.

We bought a refurb Dell Precision (?) about six months ago. It is a very nicely outfitted machine and works well--except when there is a SCREEN FREEZE (random as fcuk, about three or four times a week) and I have to do a hard reboot. Because it is a business class machine, I get three years and (supposedly) better service based in the U.S and not India. The problem is very intermittent, and I am told that because I have an SSD, the hard reboot is not the sure and steady road to hell it would be with an HDD. The Dell brain trust has had me update the BIOS ("I am sure that will solve the problem") and then an uninstall and re-install of the video card driver. Neither worked.

Now these geniuses want to swap out my C-drive, which I doubt will work. To me this seems like a motherboard fault or power supply issue. Likely the C-drive swap will only serve to cost me endless hours re-downloading, re-installing, and re-configuring all the innumerable specialized software programs I need to work 100% remotely.

In short, I am not very happy with Dell OR Windows at this point. We need a new laptop too, but we are probably just going to get a Linux system from System 76...

Anyway, good luck!

You would be best served by contacting Dell CS directly.  In the meantime you can plug in the keyboard from your desktop into your laptop.

OK update, I connected my keyboard  from  DELL desktop and it worked perfectly.
I then installed   Inspiron 5593 Mouse, Keyboard & Input Devices  and used the lap top keyboard it gave an improvement but not 100% still froze but not  all of   the time.
I am using it to post this.

Zwish, if you have a restore point prior to the fault, try that.

drogulus, No all my restore points are gone.I make plenty of restore points but they get wiped after a couple of days or so,
My Dell desk top with Vista had a very useful "Dell restore" which put the PC into the condition as new which was so helpful if you ran into trouble why on earth they did not continue that option in W10 is beyond belief.  so I am really back to square one.  is my problem a Dell fault or Windows 10.
I am seriously thinking of ditching W10 and installing Linux or something.

Actually no harm in using linux live from usb or cd (nothing is at stake because you're not installing it).  If the keyboard works then you will know it is a software issue.

I installed "Restoro" to day (free version) then tried twice to run and fix but it seemed to stall all the time, now just before bed I thought I would see if any thing had changed and this post is the result (fixed)  :) the question is 'for how long' am I a happy chappy???

My Dell PC doesn't want me to have old restore points either. There used to be an option to "show older restore points", and now it's gone.

I tried for a few years to have a split system on a iMac with Windows installed on part of it.  The response from Windows was horrible.  Don't know whether or not it was fair as they told me the that it wasn't installed in (I forget the term) a usual system.  I also remember earlier support when I had a Windows PC--which was extremely mixed and time consuming.  Meanwhile, Apple has been great to me over the years....just saying!

Good luck!

Best wishes,

PD

Would any of you buy a Dell in 2021? My Dell at work seems to work just fine, but the new (refurb) desktop I bought last year (which has much better specs) is, to a large extent, a POS.

In addition to the intermittent screen freeze issue mentioned above, my wireless mouse/keyboard connectivity is HORRENDOUS at times. I CANNOT have wires on my desktop, so this is a real pisser. Some of the video editing I do is like fine surgery. When the mouse is acting up, it is like trying to do brain surgery with a shovel. In six years of owning my previous PC (an Asus), I NEVER, NOT ONCE had any issues with latency or connectivity with my wireless mouse or keyboard. We have tried several different ones, and all have the same issues with this Dell.

I am actually looking for a new laptop, hopefully under 1000$. Which manufactuers would you look at?

Pardon but what are you meaning by POS (which I know as meaning Point of Sale)?  And sorry to hear of your problems!

Piece Of S***.  :o

It actually works pretty well most of the time; it's just that the problems are so vexing when they do occur, it drives me nuts. Screen freezes are very troubling to me because they require a hard re-boot, then ten minutes of getting everything back to where it was after I log back in. I am told that because I have an SSD as the C drive this greatly minimizes damage. I remember that with previous systems, regular hard reboots on an HDD were a sure march to hell. The mouse issue is also really troubling.

     I'd get a Dell XPS 13 at $1k, or a Lenovo ThinkPad L14.

I had similar issues with mouse and keyboard on the work laptop. It was basically a wireless signal conflict. Solved it by going bluetooth for both. No USB controller needed either.
