Tom Waits listed this as one of his top 30 favourite albums a couple of years ago. Kaizers Orchestra is a Norwegian band, merging rock, pump organ, balkan polka, oil drums, wheel rims and crowbars into one of the most irresistible live acts in Europe in the last few years. Of course they're influenced by TW too.

Very interesting. I did enjoy the album (especially 170 and Rullett)

+ Lorena McKeennit "The mask and the mirror"

and AIR "The virgin suicides"

Rapture "Pieces of the People We Love". Some dance-punk/indie rock with Robert Smith-like vocal. Also music for jogging, and I think the first half of the album is really good. However consistency is often the problem with pop/rock albums and it's also the case here. But some of these songs would suit some cool clubs in NY/Amsterdam/London perfect  8).

"One good thing about music, when it hits- you feel no pain" Bob Marley

Amadou et Mariam "Sou Ni Tile". It's sunny outside in Oslo today, and then this blind duo from Mali provides the most perfect music I can listen to. Beautiful complex vocal harmonies, polyrythmic percussion and fluid guitar, violin and horn lines make this intelligent, human pop music. They were supposed to be play in a festival close to my home last year, but they cancelled in the last minute due to some illness  :'(.

We must be the same age, Daverz.

I thought that too, when I already knew that was XTC.  ;D

I started collecting records in the mid 70s, so some of this stuff is a nostalgia trip (e.g. Rachel Sweet and the Flying Lizards).  But the XTC and Television Lps are new to me, and the Tom Waits was released in 2004, I believe.  The Television Lp is actually a sealed reissue.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a lot of used Tom Waits Lps on the market, and I have about 30 years of his records to catch up with.  The only other Lp of his that I have is The Heart of Saturday Night which is from the late 70s.  I love that Lp.

Sinatra with The Hollywood String Quartet.

You're building a very cool collection is all I can say. Got any Elvis Costello?

Yeah, his first 3 records.

A lot of my non-classical vinyl is actually my brothers, but since he doesn't have a turntable...

I was thinking, if you gave a kid all the Ken Burns Jazz CDs, he or she would have quite the basic jazz library.

Yeah, his first 3 records.

Good deal. I think I like MY AIM IS TRUE best out of those three, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Agreed.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

This is Kaizers Orchestras latest album. I presented their debut a couple of pages back. Do give them a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2PIZN8V-Bo
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.
