I'm sure that you'll all be celebrating with us ( 8))
The RAF flypast of Buckingham Palace was v impressive, although the noise was too much for Prince Louis:

Good that the RAF was not infiltrated by hostile entities. I remember Anwar el-Sadat was on a parade reviewing stand when one of the military units in the parade stopped and began firing at him.

Europadisc has a jubilee sale on British labels, so I might look at that.  ;D

Oh, I remember that. Sadat was brave to sign a treaty with Israel.

I'm a definite fan of the UK, and London is my favorite city, beyond all others.

All the best to HRH, she's always been a class act and a splendid sovereign.

I always got the impression that the Queen never really wanted to be Queen. She seemed quite a happy-go-lucky sort of person until the role was placed upon her. But that once it was, she responded with an untiring sense of duty and integrity to its execution, which she has maintained to this day, for which she certainly gets my respect, regardless of my somewhat multifaceted opinions of the institution of the monarchy and its effect upon society (some good, some bad imo).
Anyway, particularly striking to me is that how in this, the Queen is almost the polar opposite of our lamentable Prime Minister, who desperately wanted to be Prime Minister and who responded with an endlessly unchanging lack of integrity or sense of duty once he acquired the role, and has brought nothing shame and atrophy to his Office of State and political culture in general.

Totally agree with you. I think that many people will have made the same comparison.

I'm excited that I'll be making my 8th visit to the UK in a few weeks, my first trip since Covid.

A sense of duty is an attribute from her generation which sadly was not passed on to those that followed. A good example of this is her own family.

No, I'm vaccinated and Covid free on all tests!  Looking forward to visiting the southern part of the island this time (Canterbury, Portsmouth, Devon, Dartmoor, Cornwall, etc.)

This is too broad a generalization. There have been people with a sense of duty and people without in every era. There are many young people today who exhibit a sense of duty.

A generalization yes, but broad? Do we feel duty, duty for what, our country or the greater good? Maybe we have to be tested as the people in Ukraine. I see a sense of duty there.
