My first ever, intent listen to this music drama.

Sitting with the libretto on another window, this is an Experience.

The original Broadway cast recording has a much better Maria and, of course, the unbeatable Chita Rivera, but this one has more of the original score (including a lively blues number before the mambo) and a very fine Tony indeed.  :)

This new "Gee, Officer Krupke" is better than the original! It's largely thanks to terrific singing of Action and the zany guy who plays the head-shrinker.

In high school, I played, not the head shrinker, but one of the assistant shrinkers . . . .

"Take him to an assistant head shrinker!"

Rather odd symphonies. I'm not sure yet whether they add up to more than the sum of their parts.
"I don't at all mind actively disliking a piece of contemporary music, but in order to feel happy about it I must consciously understand why I dislike it. Otherwise it remains in my mind as unfinished business."

Depends. The three things beginning with C could be Caring, Cuddling and Chocolate, or Carnage, Cowpies and Crap.  :D

On the basis of this performance, I just downloaded and began listening to Gatti's Tchaikovsky Fifth.

If I could offer my unsolicited opinion - Kennedy sounds to violin-y in the viola concerto. All great violinists who tried their hands at viola concertos suffered from this - they concentrate too much on beauty of sound and not enough on depth; they get too much "sheen," for true viola playing. If you want to hear this concerto the way it was meant to be played, listen to Helen Callus, or another real violist (not to be elitist or anything).

Weren't you going to use your 25 free plays this month to listen to Domingo/Voigt sing the Walsung twins?
