Rick Rubin knows his stuff.  And the engineering is a master class in non-audiophilia, being clearly optimized for how almost all consumers will actually listen to the music, in my case earbuds.
I find that I have a hard time playing some of my rock/pop music on my good stereo system as it shows exactly what you are talking about!  ::)

Heard an anecdote recently about someone meeting Joni Mitchel in an elevator as she was looking at the finished cover design for Hejira. She turned to the stranger and asked "Does this look like I've got a dick?"

Yeah, now try and unsee that.

Aargh, thank you so much!  Probably my favourite Joni album, too.  Luckily, mine is a digital download, so I can perhaps do a bit of editing - so each time I look at it, I can think "That's the one I photoshopped the dick out of."

An interesting lady is Sinéad O'Connor or should I say Shuhada Sadaqat. Her brother is a well known author and broadcaster here too. They obviously share a common creative gene.

This album defies categorisation but that is no matter. The question is more how to describe their particular brand of music making and presentation. The foundation is basically electronica but it is much more than that. There are many musical genres and styles overlapping here. This fusion of styles adds to the overall interest and excitement of the music making. Both of the vocal elements work very well both individually and together. This vocal element is very atmospheric and very important, if indeed not crucial, in the presentation of this music. I thoroughly enjoyed it all!

Yeah, the German post is very quick and efficient. How is it? Even better than I expected. One disappointment I've always had with Nashville Skyline is that Cash is featured on only one track. Travelin' Thru more than makes up for that!

That's the one album of theirs that I have.  Agree with you about the fusion.  I've also watched a few of their performances online (via youtube)...rather otherworldly/shamanic I think.

That's cool that you enjoy exploring lots of different types of world music.  Good for you!  Out of curiosity, how did you start out on your explorations?  Parents?  Friends?  Music teacher, etc?   :)

I dated several ladies of different nationalities and races.

My mother loves American and Japanese pop music, and we are oil and water.

That is the only album of theirs that I have heard. I would like to encounter more of their work.

You can watch/listen to a lot of their music here:  https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=the+dead+can+dance

I did also find one person's description of their albums and ratings.  I have a friend who is big into them (and also 4AD overall) and I'll pick his brain for you too.  I could probably borrow some too and give you my own (totally unbiased) opinions.  ;D
