Quote from: Brian on May 19, 2024, 10:58:10 AMI'm very curious about the Aho disc of course - and I don't think I've ever heard of Fauré's Penelope??

It seems that Pénélope has been recorded a few times and I saw the Aho disc on Amazon's future releases, so I pre-ordered it immediately after running across it.

Just bought:

The only other Verdi recordings I own are the Riccardo Muti set (The Verdi Collection) and some single releases of non-operatic works like the Requiem and the String Quartet. None of them are on Decca, so this box set will be a nice compliment to the other Verdi recordings in my collection.

Quote from: DavidW on May 19, 2024, 08:40:51 AMAha!  I searched and couldn't find it before.  I have now preordered it.

A bit of an update on this Mahler Vänskä set on BIS: I ended up cancelling the pre-order with Amazon US because it now shows a release date of June 21st and ended up pre-ordering the set on Amazon UK, which shows a release date of June 7th. The price on Amazon US and UK were only a few dollars --- plus, I got the Amazon Priority shipping with it, so I'll have it by the 12th or 13th. I know some people would say "Why not just wait until June 21st?" Well, we're not guaranteed a tomorrow and I want to at least have this Mahler Vänskä set in my possession before I go. ;)

Great recording! By the way, @Wanderer I wanted to tell you that any hardships we've had in the past, I'm sorry and let's put it behind us. You and I have much music in common, so I'd rather highlight this than continue with the hard feelings.

I also saw the delay.  I would just be out of town either way so I'm fine sitting on that preorder.  If it is delayed again, I'll switch to UK after I come back.

But I've sometimes noticed that Amazon lies.  They announce a delay that doesn't actually exist so when they deliver it on time you feel happy that it is early. ::) I don't know how many times that has happened to me.

Yeah, Amazon are certainly no arbiters of truth that's for sure. ;D I can't tell you how many lies I've caught them in, but unfortunately for me (and I imagine so many others), they're one of my only options. If I see this Mahler set will indeed have a delivery date that's closer than the pre-order I made with Amazon UK, then I'll go back with Amazon US.

Perbacco, John! I'm greatly and pleasantly surprised by your turning into a Verdi fan!  :D

Yeah, over the past couple of years I've become quite a fan of 19th and 20th Century Italian opera. I love Puccini and Mascagni for example, but I really needed to give Verdi a fair chance and I'm glad I did. Wonderful composer.

I can only hope and pray for your future discovery of Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini. Wonderful composers. ;)

Hah! Well, you never know, but right now I tend to learn more towards the afore-mentioned composers.

Unfortunately, the booklet does not have texts for Le Flute de Pan, but you can find them here for the Timpani recording:

Nice choice, Peter Power Pop. Chout is a fantastic ballet. That entire Prokofiev Michail Jurowski series on CPO is excellent.
