Well, my last Sunday on duty, and it looks tobe the last Henningmusick at a service at HTUMC Danvers. Barbara is playing et tenebræ super faciem abyssi for the Prelude, and the choir will sing Bless the Lord, O My Soul.

I was slow on the draw, so the first few seconds are missing. To compensate, we've got some ambient conversation ....

Curiously, there do seem to be two possible choir director leads, though it's unclear at first blush whether either would work. A Lutheran parish in Natick, and a Unitarian parish in Rockport. The first question is if the organist is a separate position, since even if I had the use of my left hand, I am no organist. The really practical killer may be that both Natick and Rockport are outside of the service area of The Ride, so transportation would be costly in either case.

I've connected via email with the Unitarian church. Will report.

This probably counts as trolling and so, I should probably be ashamed, but I posted, "Darth Vader was a bad dad?" on Threads, and the poster replied in earnest. My work there is done.

According to the "mythology," Darth Vader was a highly annoying little kid, who became even more annoying and whiny as an adolescent!

Worse, he had no father, apparently some sort of genetic experiment gone wrong!   ;)

This being my first "free Sunday" after release from HTUMC, I was thinking of visiting at the First Congregational Church in Woburn, where I historically had ties. However, when investigating their new website, I noted that they've re-branded themselves as Evangelical. That, plus tendencies I recall from past association, left me suspicious that they've devolved into a MAGA recruitment cell, so no, thanks. Although I had heard (long since) that there was a good music program at the Lutheran church in Woburn, I'd never been. So, I decided I would visit this morning. The long and the short of it is, nothing like any employment prospect here, but the organist is a good colleague to have met. People here are nice, so I may continue to attend here.

Amusingly, my dear friend Stéphanie named her two cats (both of them black and white) Anakin and Vader.

@Karl Henning  Do you think that your former church will be able to survive much longer?

I haven't met the new Pastor (and probably will not, as things have played out.) His wife apparently has functional piano skills, and the plan seems to be that she will play along with hymns (our soon-to-be-former organist Barbara describes the result as passable ... the new pastor's previous services being on YouTube ... I haven't checked them out, myself.) I don't exactly know what other music there will be (Barbara feels it will be "canned," and I cannot gainsay her.) The extent to which the congregation will find that a satisfying experience? I'm not sanguine.
