Quote from: AnotherSpin on July 11, 2024, 08:56:52 PMI am not listening LPs for many years. I only told that CDs reincarnations of some Miles Davis' albums were not as good as LP originals. Of course, I am not asking for agreement. I am not listening for CDs anymore as well, streaming is pretty much sufficient. Ok, now we can share our musical impressions no problem.

Well, that's fair enough. I guess if I didn't have my current collection, then streaming would be the cheapest option, but, honestly, I still would probably acquire the physical medium, because I prefer having some kind of tangible item in my hands. This kind of listening experience is lost on so many today, but, then again, most people don't care anything about music to begin with, so it doesn't surprise me. Streaming, to me, represents too many options and having access to millions of albums doesn't appeal to me. I'm happy with my limited collection, which actually isn't so limited as I have well over 6,000 CDs at this juncture (and I'm counting box sets as one!).

About 4-5 years ago I sold/gifted my compact collection (same with my LP collection decades before that), the exact number I never knew, probably 2 or 3 thousand. Was quite relieved to be free of the piles of plastic.

And now, during the war, it's even less important, everything is simplified, I don't have my sophisticated high end sound set anymore, everything is minimal and portable, as I've been moving from place to place for a few years now. Streaming is the only option I see (or hear :) ).

Not to get too political, but I imagine it being difficult for you (and others) during this particular time. Is moving to another country possible? I've met many Ukrainians since this conflict who have escaped and seem rather content living here now.

Not to get too philosophical, but life is always life regardless of apparent circumstances. Someone can be quite happy in a trench, someone deeply unhappy on a paradise island. For me, the location of the body is not so important. It is possible to leave for all women and men not of conscription age.

I find no reason to be unhappy on a paradise island, especially if there's gorgeous, exotic looking bikini-clad women prancing around and feeding me grapes all day long. Sad? I think not! ;D

From the Ottawa Jazz Festival last month, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue in a medley of Hurricane Season and When the Saints Go Marching In. One of my favorites among the many New Orleans-based musicians, Shorty (a.k.a., Troy Andrews) plays multiple instruments, and has great collaborators.

And another sequence, "Here Come the Girls," from Trombone Shorty and his band at the Ottawa Jazz Festival. Like some other musicians, he plays multiple instruments — in this case, trumpet.

Eat grapes all day long and you may become quite unhappy very soon.

Last album for the night:

Keith Jarrett: Paris Concert

Quote from: Mirror Image on July 12, 2024, 08:33:01 PMLast album for the night:

Keith Jarrett: Paris Concert

I love pretty much all of Jarrett's solo albums, from Facing You and Bremen/Lausanne to the latest, released a few years ago. I don't even know which ones I'd single out. In each one I find Jarrett's special world, a journey in which, long or short, always brings joy and delight. Still, in the last few years I've been returning more often to the Sun Bear Concerts series and Staircase, uniquely recorded in studio. Staircase is rarely mentioned, and I think undeservedly so. However, I have a special feeling for it, it was one of the first few Jarrett records I bought back in the 70s.

One of several albums he made to generate enough cash so the band could stay together and make the music they really wanted to make.

And it's still pretty good.

Yes, the Sun Bear Concerts is incredibly special. I actually rate it alongside Keith Jarrett at the Blue Note: The Complete Recordings set as being the pinnacle of his art. Both sets are indispensable.

I'm not sure about "pretty good". I've never heard a bad Basie album.

Quote from: Mirror Image on July 11, 2024, 06:38:22 AMWell, then that's what you should've wrote, because, as you can see, I'm not the only one who took your comment to mean something else. I'm not trying to be a jerk to you and I love talking jazz with all kinds of listeners, but you just had me confused.
I wrote exactly what I should have written.

That's an inference.
