South Carolina has declared a state of emergency. For those living in Florida, I hope you stay safe.

Impossible to predict accurately at this point.

The NHC has decent rainfall forecast graphs. It looks like over half of South Carolina is forecast to get at least 6 inches of rain, with coastal areas potentially getting over 20 inches.

I'm in the orange region, which is 8-12 inches.

A good friend of mine likes to say either "It's the surface of the sun" or "It's hotter than the surface of the sun!"  As you can guess, neither of us are big lovers of high temps.

Did it just start raining today?

Speaking of which, I need to get doing some errands soon--slow start for me today.  I am going to bring my water bottle with me though (filled with some ice cubes and cold water).

We haven't had a lot of rain, but we have had very high (>90%) humidity for over a week now, pushing two weeks. My bedroom closet doesn't have any wet clothes in it, but the odor of mold is very prominent if you open the door (which I'm leaving open for now). Temperatures have been pushing 30ºC (86ºF) every day for the last week, but because of the high dew points, that hasn't been enough to prevent everything exposed from getting damp enough for mold to form.

Indeed, moldy smells are the norm on the local trails now.

This weather is forecast to end later tonight with up to 50 mm (2") of rain  - and then much cooler weather, in the low 20s C (low 70s F), for the remainder of the week... though rain is forecast to return by Friday.

Helsinki weather has been a bit rainy recently, but it doesn't rain all day long. There are sunnier moments. Temperature is 20-22°C (68-72°F)

You're going in the wrong direction; Madrid is on Mars and so should never get above 20C.

I hate mold!  Often have to pass on buying records due to how they were stored (makes me cough).  Do you have a dehumidifier running?

@DavidW How are things in your soggy neck of the woods?  I turned on the Weather Channel.  Earlier, they had an interview with a Charleston councilman who lived(s) in the lowest lying area of the city (in what were formerly marsh lands); sixty streets were closed in the city (58 of which were in his area) due to flooding.

Thankfully, cooler temps here (low 70's)...alleluiah!  Yesterday was brutal; in the 90's.  Cloudy skies but no rain.

@Pohjolas Daughter It's Just raining right now, no big deal.

Great! I'm guessing that you are a bit outside of the tropical storm-force winds based on the latest maps. However, the storm is forecast to stall over your area until Wednesday. Hopefully the combined rain total is not too high.

Yeah, we'll get all the bad stuff tomorrow and the day after.

In the meantime, my internet is restored! I finally have internet again at home.

Nope... I do not even own one as this is a rented, studio apartment. I may have to buy one, but that plus a floor-standing air conditioner would present a challenge to find available floor space.

35 here in Busan.

Since 2010, I've always had two apartments in Korea, one supplied by the uni, another elsewhere. After moving in at that time, I started experiencing numbness in my fingers whenever I was in Busan but not the other city.

After my first semester, I was away for the summer. When I came back, all my clothes were covered in mold. (I thought they were ruined, but most of it had come off before I even got them to the dry cleaners.) Naturally, I bought a dehumidifier then, and I mean a good one. To my surprise, although it makes sense in retrospective, the numbness issue never came back after that.

By the way, I stand by this claim. Not just this time, but in general, a hurricane's trajectory is erratic. The models quickly fail to predict whether they will move inland and lose steam or go out to sea and be re-invigorated. It looks now like it is the latter case.

Several years ago, when we had a hurricane, my neck of the woods was predicted to be the least affected; instead, it was the most.
