Autechre - Cichlisuite ("sickly sweet"  :D  )

This release anticipated LP5 leaving the grainy granular synthesis behind for glassy sounds. Krib has always had a very sad feel to it again proving Autechre's music can be quite emotional.

Quote from: AnotherSpin on September 22, 2024, 04:55:12 AMTruly beautiful music. If you like this side of Vangelis, his amazing talent for creating achingly beautiful, dreamy themes, then this album is just that, and also perhaps the most successful example of Vangelis and Anderson's long-running collaboration.

Of Vangelis' other albums with gorgeous themes, has the Blade Runner soundtrack been mentioned here yet?

Jon & Vangelis - Private Collection

I felt something was missing here. The chord progressions are not very adventurous and excessive reverb on almost everything takes the edge away.

As for Blade Runner soundtrack, that music is of course familiar.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I clearly remember when I first heard the Jon & Vangelis albums on vinyl in the early '80s. As a fan of the classic Yes lineup, they seemed absolutely outrageous to me at the time. How could such an outstanding and famous prog-rocker stoop to such pop music? Time has passed, and now I'm more likely to listen to Jon & Vangelis than Yes albums :).

Dickey Betts: Highway Call (1974)

As you might guess, this sounds a lot like Allman Brothers music. And that does not hurt my feelings.

Nice recommendation. That hit the sweet spot. I think Jon Anderson's slightly older voice fits the music well.

The music wouldn't be what it is clearly meant to be if the chord progressions weren't what they are. And the reverb is there to add to the deliberately dreamy quality of the songs. So I don't think anything is 'missing', I think it's just the music doesn't appeal to you.

Still as fresh as if it was finished yesterday.

One of the songs ends with music that sounds like Mr خليفاتي lifted some tunage from Mr Biber.  Or.  Or Messers خليفاتي and Biber lifted tunage from some shared source from centuries past.  Either way, it's cool.

Ted Nugent & the Amboy Dukes: Call of the Wild

Halfway through, I am not sure I love this record. But it does rock pretty hard, and the guitar playing is, um, incendiary.

Incendiary.

Sometimes I find myself wondering if you've raided my collection. You listen to some rather obscure titles which I've never heard anyone else discuss anywhere.

Fifty Foot Hose - Cauldron

A psychedelic electric rock album from 1968 by San Francisco based band that has achieved a cult status decades after its release. Surely sounds interesting. That's why I listened to this on Spotify. Experimental? Yes. Psychedelic? Yes. Interesting? Yep, somewhat. Great music? No. The more jazzy songs are okay, but musically there is nothing to blow my mind. The electric stuff is gimmicky and clichéd: Sine sweeps and chirps + some ring modulation kind of effects. The LCR-type of hard panning mixing typical to this type of music doesn't help making the experience not only psychedelic, but also annoyingly/unintentionally claustrophobic and without significant cross-feeding this stuff is totally unlistenable on headphones.

Silver Apples - Silver Apples

Another psychedelic electronic rock band formed in late 60's, this time from New York City. This group was mentioned in the Youtube video about Fifty Foot Hose's Couldron. I find Silver Apples more impressive for their uncompromising futuristic style and sound. This is half proto techno and half psychedelic rock. The rhythms are manic and on front. The electronic sounds are incorporated into the rhythm in the way techno music does and the rhythms are repeative like in modern electronic dance music. Singing is an afterthought (bad). This music was ahead of their time quite a bit.
