Quote from: Brian on October 03, 2024, 06:13:46 PMAbsolutely epic game tonight!

We have three regional rivalries in the next round -

Phillies vs. Mets
Dodgers vs. Padres
Tigers vs. Guardians

and, uhh, Yankees vs. Kansas City  ;D

I was watching the game in my hotel room (I'm visiting Dallas) and even though I was living in NYC in 1986 and the Mets were a team I have a nostalgic fan relationship, I found myself disappointed with the outcome.  Thrilling how it all turned out; and I am happy for Pete Alonzo (wonder where he'll end up in free agency).

The Mets were the lowest seeded team, and managed to squeak in, so I don't expect them to last long, I don't there's another Cinderella upset in the cards for them - the other teams are just too good.  And I would have preferred watching Milwaukee.

But the bottom-line is I am a Yankees fan, and am only really hoping they go all the way - and will especially enjoy seeing the Yanks beat L.A., if that is how it pans out (which is the final match up many are predicting).

All is wonderful in baseball land as both of my New York teams are gunning for the pennant this October!  :) Took a needed break from the forum for a while. Your team still in the race?

Must admit, I very seldom watch baseball these days.  If I was cheering on a team, it would be either the Yankees or the Red Sox.

An NL East thing, huh?  :) Must say I'm surprised Baltimore didn't make it this far. I missed their division series though (because I had a number of their players on my fantasy teams) I caught quite a number of their games this year.

Well, it's the Yanks vs. (The Cleveland) Guardians tonight in Game 1 of the NLCS. Never liked any Cleveland team, to be honest, so my preference is a no-brainer.

But I'm not sure The Mets'll be able to overcome The Dodgers in LA in this afternoon's Game 2 matchup. I did miss LA's 9-0 butt whooping yesterday, thank goodness. Hopefully the Amazin's have recovered for a nice rebound.

I've got a whole slew of Mets books in my Kindle library- well, at least 5, I think. I need to get around to reading them one of these days.  ;D

Books about their first season, the 1969 season, the 1999-2000 seasons, and the 2015 season.

1969 is an amazing year, which of course also includes Broadway Joe and the Jets. The rest, I just must have been interested in the Mets one day and started buying books.  :-[

Impressive! It's four more than my collection:

Fun read. Tried the audio but dude's voice puts me to sleep. So I dip in it at the odd moment.  :)

Added to my future kindle purchases list.  8)

Thanks for the heads-up about the audio -- I often add the audiobook when purchasing the kindle, so I will remember to skip this one.  ;D

Isn't there a book about the 1986 championship season?  I was in NYC then and even though I've been a lifelong Yankees fan, for that year, everyone on NYC was a Mets fan; they were announcing the score during half innings on the subway.  I remember the 6th game and the notorious Buckner error.

It was very hot, and most people must have had their windows open (if they could) I know we did - and you could hear an audible cheer outside from all over the city.

Yes, there is a Mr. Met and a Mrs. Met, and this year they are also "borrowing" the Grimace character from McDonald's children's meals.

I probably just stopped myself after buying a bunch of books that day.

I just looked and found at least three focused on '86, as well as a number of general team histories that no doubt have a good focus on that era.

I forgot I also have this one:

Audible was having a 2-for-1 deal not long ago, and this memoir was one of the options. I have no idea if its any good, but I couldn't resist getting it basically for free. (or 50%, depending on how you do the math).

:( Think I jinxed it.

Fun season, though.

Yankees-Dodgers. Not the most exiting prospect but I'm sticking by New York.  :)

I disagree.

This was the match-up I was hoping for: watching the two MVPs from each league, the teams with the respective best records from each league, go head-to-head in the longest postseason rivalry in baseball history promises great excitement, IMO.

To be fair, it's been 15 years since the Yankees were in the Series.

And over 40 since these two teams met for the championship.

Only someone with no appreciation of baseball history could make that kind of comment.

The Yankees and Dodgers have faced off 11 times previously with some of the greatest teams for each, and some of the greatest games in MLB history, e.g. Don Larson's perfect game.

It is long overdue for their 12th series, and may prove to be as entertaining as the greatest WS of the past.
