Yes, the process is hit-or-miss. I'm doing my best to remain optimistic

It was highly gratifying to be reminded what cool pieces the Jazz for Nostalgic Squirrels and Down Along the Canal to Minerva Road are.

Not much. I've got that chamber orchestra piece I've started, but I have neither formed the kind of definite idea about the piece which it (and the listener) deserve, nor found much motivation to work on it. I doubt this limbo is forever, but it's the present I'm living in.

And, in Random Stuff from the Universe: a fellow musician has asked me what I'd charge to engrave a five-minute score. I'm reaching out to two friends who publish, to see what a fair rate would be.

I doubt this limbo is forever, but it's the present I'm living in. To further compound the bizarro world around me, my wifi is out because there's no power to my box, because (a) of the weird way the house was wired and (b) my neighbor seems to be in arrears with the electric company, and my box is (peculiarly) on his dime. It's a challenge, living sans internet connection (I'm posting this from the Library.) I could still work on my piece without the connection. Maybe I'll take that as motivation 😀
Oh, boy!  So, no lights/power too?  Or just the wifi?

No lights in the cellar, where my box is. The neighbor's back and all has been righted.

All power to you. Such things need just one shift of fortune to look very different. Good luck. :)

Thanks! This is the most trouble I've had finding a job since I was fresh out of high school. Which means I've pretty much had it good most of my life.

That's a good way to think about it.  I'm struggling as well and not liking the introduction of AI into the process.  My niece and nephews looking for work said they've been interviewed by AI!

Perhaps Karl can find some AI to do his side of the interview ;) .

They said something about having a zoom interview where there was no one on the other end and the AI sorted through their video responses deciding which interviews are worth passing on to a human recruiter.  So round one interview was with an AI and it made the first cut.

The modern way of filtering out unlucky candidates by randomly throwing half the applications in the bin ;) .

That doesn't surprise me. Major corporations have already been using very long, tedious questionnaires to filter out applicants without ever an actual human looking at the applications. These are for entry-level positions at large companies that have FAR MORE applicants than positions to fill.

Another of my job prospects hired someone else.
